okay, first congrats on your liscense, we both spelled it wrong. i was 38 when i got mine. scared to death to drive. but i have discovered a whole new world. i can go anywhere i want anytime i want.
the solution. drive the speed limit, if people don't like it they will go around you. cars passing, driving in the opposite direction, freaked me out. i got over it and you can too. it's a game yu have to play in your mind. you will make it to your destination. believe in yourself. if you want to e-mail please feel free to do so. driving is scarey, but at the same time...... freedom. |

Hi Karen Louise. You just have to keep driving. You'll get over the fear in due time. |

You'll never get over the fear if you don't face it. It's sort of scary at first to go out on your own, but the more you practice driving, the better you'll get. |

the best thing is too over come that fear and just go
GOOD LUCK |

Practice driving in a cemetery. That's how I was taught. Remember- You can't kill anyone there. ;) Seriously, too, it's a really slow speed, usually lots of curves and turns, and maybe a little bit of other traffic just to get you used to driving around other moving vehicles. Not an awful place to get some practice in! |

Surely you will be much more confident after you have practice. Practice driving where there isn't any other cars around and also maybe your parents could give you some pointers. |

i use to be terrified to drive...sooo i would take my sis or dad and they would drive to an isolated area and i would just drive around, get use to making turns etc. Then i would go to the park and drive around for like two hours. And when i got my license, the first time i drove by myself, i went on the highway....yuppp now driving is natural for me...
GOOD LUCK !! |

you are probably too scared to drive because you have heard of all of the bad things that can happen on the road. but if you drive carefully and ALWAYS wear your seatbelt, then you will be fine:) |

Don't be scared just start out in small towns or neighbor hoods and
then build yourself up to the city, this works !! |

Take lessons. Driving is not all that simple. There is no reason to expect that the people in your life are experts. They probably just learned by doing.
Do not get caught up in a fast crowd. Stay to the speed limits. Do not follow others too closely. You need to learn what the proper following ddistance is, how fast 25 or thirty miles an hour really is! Many other things. Most of your fellow motorists do not really know what they are doing -- as in charging fast and blind stupid from stop sign to stop sign instead of keeping a reasonable pace. Stay out of "lane one", the inside lane when traveling the freeway. It is asafer to drive with your headlights on. Never drive when using your parking lightrs only. Manyb other neat things to learn. |

if you live in a city with more than 100,000 people i don't blame you for help try to find a class on defensive driving that the police use or what ever that's called and pray that the idiots get killed off or arrested before you start driving |

just drive but relax, the more you drive the more you'll feel comfortable with it, but don't go crazy while you drive, just wait till your ready. |

well driving is really scary at first. It takes time to get comftorable behind the wheel. Another thing you should keep in mind is that your in a car which is pretty thick and your protected. Your wearing your seat belt and going the speed limit. You can not control what other people do on the road but you can get comftorable with yourself driving. Try taking it slow. Drive a few blocks to the store. Drive around in an empty parking lot. Drive with someone who has driving experience. It took me about 6 months to get fully comftorable behind the wheel. I made it a point to drive frequently though. I took some driving courses too. They offer safety courses too. Have confidence in yourself. The average person doesnt get into a lot of car accidents. Just practice and get used to it. Good luck! |

just the fact that you have your driver's license means a lot, and means you are safe to be in the road. Just challenge yourself to do it. Remember, driving your car means freedom, you dont have to depend on anybody to go anywhere. And that is a lot of progress, don't be afraid, for me it helped me to go to church at night, even though I wanted to go I couldn't because I had to depend on the bus, waste a lot of time, I had to go by myself on the freeway, bymyself, I believe God gave me a lot of strength before, after that I felt sooo better and more confident, knowing he was going with me... |

If you have a friend that can drive have them take you to an empty large parking lot (a high school on the weekend is often a good bet). Driving around the parking lot will let you quickly build confidence and learn proper vehicle control. The openness of the parking lot will also allow you to have a little fun which again aids in becoming a more confident driver. Once you become more confident I would suggest driving through neighborhoods, they provide real life driving conditions, but at a much slower pace.
Hope this helps. |

Driving was the absolute HARDEST thing to get me to go out and do... Finally, I was pretty much pushed to go out and drive... I acquired a job at a coffee shop about a mile away and even THAT seemed scary at first... but, to get there by walking it'd be across the main road and down and across the highway and I thought well, what if I get a job farther away later?
I finally convinced myself to do it... and over time of just saying "it isn't far... I've done this before..." etc. it just became more and more comfortable. You pretty much have to make yourself get out on the road and once you do, the more times you do so.... the easier it becomes until finally, you don't even give it a passing thought, you just grab the keys and go. ^,^
I hope what I've said has helped! |

yes.what i would do is just get your parents to come with you and just 4 your first time drive slowly on a dirt road cause most of the time people arent on dirt roads.then eventually you will learn how to drive on the hard road, and it will be easy:) |
