First time driving alone for a 4 hour drive. Help?

This is my first time driving alone out on the road. I wouldn't say I have much driving experience and I am very nervous. I have to drive from Abilene to San Antonio which equates to about a 4 hour drive give or take.. I know that I will have to get on the highway and I am really nervous. How do I get over this fear and is it a good idea for me to make this drive considering my situation?

Half you trip is two lane, the other half interstate. (US 83 and I 10)
1. Decide you will be fine, especially after being sure your car is ready. Check air pressure (all 5 tires) and fluids.
2. Lots of following distance, the more the better. Gives you more time to digest what you are seeing and take proper action.
3. Take your time. Getting in a hurry causes accidents and stupid activity, like following too closely.
4. Have time in your trip for breaks, stop and stretch at least every two hours.
5. Since you have concerns, time your trip to miss the traffic periods in San Antonio. It will be heavier than what you are used to anyway, so why ask for more. |

once you're actually on the highway, you'll see that it's not so bad, just stay in the slow lane. remember that when you see a semi truck, if you can't see the driver's face in the mirror, he can't see you. |

Don't worry, you'll do brilliantly. It's natural to be a little apprehensive but you have to start somewhere. Make sure you take lots of breaks and don't go too fast! Have a good trip x |

Just take it easy. Sounds like a good time to practice driving. Think positive and you'll be fine. Make sure you refill your tank before you head off eh. xD |

if you have drivers license and it is not rush hour traffic and it is daylight you will be ok. the fear is first getting started and then you will be fine. if you don't have gps get directions over my yahoo driving directions and you will already know which lane to stay in at intersections or ramps |
