I've always found driving in the rain a major pain in the butt. Even with the high beams on, most times it's as though you don't even have headlights. Properly aimed fog lights make a WORLD of difference in nasty weather. You can actually see the road ahead of you, not just hope there is nothing there. If you want to do so, by all means go ahead. It will improve your visibility when the weather turns nasty.

Fog lamps only help in foggy days/nights. replace your light bulbs with brighter ones which would help you see wider and further down the road. Sylvania Xtravision bulbs are great replacement. I'm using them.

Rule of thumb. IF YOU CAN'T SEE DON'T DRIVE.

I have a good set of BOSCH 100w fog lamps on my car. Aimed properly fog lamps are excellent for FOG, SNOW, AND HEAVY RAIN. I have been mounting fog lamps on my vehicles for over thirty years and I swear by them. They also do a great job of defining the shoulder of the road when visibility is compromised.
My fog lamps are wired by a relay to the low beam circuit of my headlamps and will not function when the high beams are activated. I also have a centrally mounted single fog lamp with a red lens on the rear bumper.

Yes if they are aimed right not on just for looks and blinding everyone. Which is why there is laws being looked at to out law them.
