I hit and killed a little beagle that ran in front of my car....I did stop and comforted the lady that owned him.....she knew it was an accident.......It upset so bad that I vomited later that night |

Yeah, a dog on the freeway. Killed the dog and messed up my truck, I was little sick of myself for a few days. I don't under stand why so people aim for the animals. |

Sadly, yes, I have hit wildlife that has wandered across the road in front of me. In my time of driving, I have hit 2 kangaroos, a third one hit the side of the car... many rats (there was a plague that year) several rabbits and a few snakes.
Please bear in mind when you are driving a triple road train in outback Australia, you do not have many options for going around things. Kangaroos tend to do the most stupid things... They will hop away from you, then, when you think that you are clear of the danger, they come straight back in front of you!
I do not like to hit wildlife at all, but, when you have a gross weight of 115 tonnes, and the kangaroo does what I have described above... and I am not able to deviate from the line of travel, what do I do to avoid???

I think I have the unofficial record for this: a dog, a cat, about four rabbits I think, and, you wouldn't guess.....a horse!!! almost killed me! luckily i was wearing a seat belt and the car was a big SUV(Toyota land cruiser)!!! |

Not yet. I drive pretty alertly and have been lucky. I drive a little hyundai though so if something hits me I'm screwed. |

Growing up in the country I have struck and killed many animals. Mostly smaller animals, rabbits, squirels, the like. I have also hit a dog or two, and suffered vehicle damage as well. (Just to note the dogs owners had to pay for the damage because of the leash laws here.) My personal opinion is that I would rather run over an animal than try to avoid hitting it and causing a major accident or major damage to my vehicle. |
