Agree. Anything that takes my attention away from operating my vehicle is a hazard and ultimately dangerous. Driving demands 100 pct mental focus. It does not allow multi-tasking. |

hands-free helps, but being involved in a phone conversation can still distract you from your driving.
There is test data that proves this--they put people in a driving simulator and had them do things like answer questions and adjust the radio--any of those things had a negative impact on the driving ability. People would miss turns and run off the road because they were distracted by conversation. |

True, when people are getting into an accident it is because they are paying more attention to the conversation than the semi in front of them. But I think a road lined with pillows and mattresses is the answer. |

i agree because they still take your concentration away from driving. the problem with talking on a phone while driving isn't entirely that your hands are occupied. it's also that your mind is trying to focus on a conversation and traffic at the same time. while it is possible to do that, it isn't a good idea when a small mistake can cost someone their life. |

Even though cell phones have been around for a while now, they are still considered a novelty to many people, especially young people. The problem is the young drivers who see it as a status symbol to have a cell phone are also the most inexperienced drivers.
Another reason people seem to be talking on the phone in their cars is traffic congestion. While sitting in traffic that seems to go on for eternity, many people turn to their cell phones to alleviate the boredom, and irritation. |

Probably not, but they are better than the nitwits I see driving with a cell phone planted on their ear for miles at a time. The worst thing I ever saw was a woman making a left turn at a busy intersection using a cell phone and with a cigarette and a soft drink in her hand.
I confess, that I do use a cell phone occasionally while driving but only for short periods of time, and I try to make the call when I'm on an open stretch of road. I usually use the phone to place a carry-out order while on my way home, or to make brief calls to let people know when to expect me. |

Because people dont get into accidents because they are steering with 1 hand, people get into accidents because they are paying attention to the conversation they are having and not what is going on around them. |

Sure, and maybe we should ban passengers too. That's a hands free conversation. Maybe we should ban the radio, it's listening like one would listen on the phone.
Things like eating and changing the car's heat controls are just as distracting, ban those too.
maybe we should just ban driving. |

I agree BUT I would rather use a hands free device with my phone.
People have been killed because of talking on the cell phone & Driving
at the same time.
This is why alot of states have laws on the books against using a cell phone with out hands free capability's. |

I think phones do not belong in cars period. |

I agree............that still can cause distractions to the driver. |

because you still need both hands to text while driving?
as far as talking goes, hands free is the best, you know you're not going to get people to stay off the phone. |
