I am totally on your side!
I have 3 kids and the youngest is 15months, so although I can carry him across the car park, it is easier if we don't have to carry him as far as he wants to get down and walk and then by the time he gets to the trolley he wont get in!
(I'm sure all you mums know what I mean!)
But regardless of that fact, we are not scared of walking and us in our legs but more scared of walking past all the cars who are reversing our of their spaces and cannot see my 3 little children!
Parking in the mother and child spaces enables us to get our kids out of the car without scratching the car next to us as we need to open the door wide to get the baby in the car seat, plus my older kids get out on their own and will easily scratch the car next to them if they are not extra carefull.
I would never dream of parking in a disabled spot (even though they get so many more spaces than mother and baby places) and it also annoys me when disabled park in our spaces.
Besides that, supermarkets seem to enforce the no parking in a disabled spot and totally ignore all the people with no kids parking in our spots!
I have had many an argument with people over this and I would say I am a pretty tolerant person but this just winds me up that people are so ignorant!!!!!
Sorry to go on....
I have had many an argument |

Now you know how disabled people feel!
**Never said you were disabled or not disabled. This happens to people with disabilities all the time, all I was saying is that now - you can relate to them.. |

no, the children need to be close to the shop away from the STUPID drivers in car parks ... yes they do have more space, but their placing in the car park, is for convenience of closeness to the store
neither do i park in disabled parking spaces (it really irritated me walking the whole car park with a wheelchair, for my father) !
it's a disgrace that people do whilst they are able bodied & not impaired in any way or have young children to closely watch ... just are ignorant to other people
**** i find the apparant blase attiude of the additional comments on the question disrespectfull too. subject does not make me angry, just feel sorry for people with so much ignorance & self worth |

I'm all in agreement with you on this. Makes steam come out of my ears. My father has the same problem with the disabled spaces. He can't walk very far at all. If there's not one free, but there is a childs' space, he won't take it though. |

i've never done it but it really annoys me when i see someone parking in the disabled spot (and are not disabled) and get out of the car thinking nothing of it!!! i've seen alot of business people dong this for some reason!!
another thing that annoys me is a car taking up more than one parking space!!!! |
|

?!
 |
I also have young daughter and it infuriates me when I see people doing this! Before she was born and heavily pregnant my mum used to tell me to park there - I never did!
Same with disabled spots - they should get fined!
It's not about walking extra yards to those who obviously have never had to get a toddler out of a door thats literally able to open 10 cms!!!! |

I did today and I don't have any young kids. But I am disabled and all the disbled spaces were taken . I know child space customers sometimes park in disabled spaces.
What really annoys me is at the front of the superstore where these spaces are , is also the hole in the wall cash machines. The number of perfectly fit people who park in disabled and kids places to use the machines is considerable, and they are abusive with it . |

for all those with out kids think about this.... have you ever had to wrestle 1+ small children out of a very tight space(car) into
a very tight space ( pushchair or trolley)? mabye you would like to borrow some off friends/ family (With they're consent and try... its a night mare trying not to bump into the next spaces car!!!!
i have to say that i am a disabled badge holder and a mum of two kids. its so annoying to see people with neither one of these park in designated parking areas. i make a point of asking them where they're kids are or where the blue badge is in they're car if im sure that they are taking advantage. (older people are the worst for it,older men, sorry if this offends)
it makes me what to do damage... (make what of that you want), i have never though, the thought of getting a criminal record for some lazy idiot isnt worth it...
people should be more considerate. |

I have never seen special spaces for parents with children. I have seen ones for expectant mothers. I parked there once because I had a sprained ankle and couldn't walk too far. I felt so guilty though, I puffed out my belly a little as I hobbled to make it look like maybe I was not very far along. I felt so bad though. I would never park in a handi cap space or a parent and child space. I am perfectly capable of walking a few extra yards without a problem, but handicaps and parents with children really benefit from parking a little closer. It is just uncurteous and inconsiderate to park there when you don't need to. |

Because of the crazy drivers you can encounter in supermarkets, it makes sense that young families and elderly/disabled shoud be in a designated area.
The people who have put on rude remarks about thinking you are special because you have kids should button up!
They really are showing what kind citizens they are eh!?
Having three kids myself I know how tricky this can be.
I order my shopping on line because I am sick of the car parking 'rage' that inconsiderate people erupt into when after all they are only parking a car. . .
walk you
non disabled
pregnant
elderly
or otherwise prople
why?
because you can..... |

i dont drive, but my mom does and she has honestly NEVER dont that. Its rude to park there when a mother expecting is having a hard time walking because of all the pains and weight, they could use that space. And for young children it also makes sense because they can be hard to keep track of and they can wonder away. If they're closer to the door of the store chances are the cant wonder so far or get hit. My mom knows how it feels so she would be considerate and not park there and save it for someone who actually needs it. It wont hurt her to walk a couple extra feet. |

Nope, I NEVER have. I always park the furthest away in a parking lot cause I don't like how rude people can be by marking up your car with their car door just cause THEY drive junkers. |

Those of you with no children have NO idea how hard it can be to get children in and out of their cars seats with a gap of 5cm to squeeze through!!!!
it`s not about parking nearer to the shop i would happily walk further its about needing a little more space.
I personally have only ever parked in one with no children around when i was pregnant because i was so huge i actually couldn`t get out the car in a normal space-no joke!!!!
also people managed years ago because there was no car seats to strap them into, children used to just sit on the back seat without even a belt so there was no need for mum to have to practically climb in the back to strap them in!!! |

yes that is really annoying ! i have a 16 month old and parent and child spaces are as rare as hens teeth sometimes ......by the way im amazed at the sheer stupidity of some of you people that have answered this!! |

I don't drive so, no I don't do it, there aren't even a such thing as parent parking here. But I also take offense that you would assume that everyone who has children, have messy dirty cars filled with toys and kid stuff! I know alot of people who have a child who keep their car very clean and keep the toys put away, where they belong. I have also seen alot of people who don't have kids and their cars are messy and can even have kid stuff in the backseat do to reletives that had been in the car the day before. Maybe you should really think about that before you ASSUME again. |

No I have never done it. I never complain when I see mother or handicap spots. Does it kill you to walk a little further? How lazy are people? Geesh.
There is some handicap people that you cannot see their medical condition, so don't ever judge someone without knowing. Some people have breathing problems or heart conditions.
STOP BEING SO LAZY PEOPLE!! |

Don't ever do that. A lot of those permits are misused. Report them if you can. |

Ok, you say in your "edit" that the difference is the extra wide space - rather than the proximity to the door.
......So the fact they area always at the front of the store along with the disabled parking is pure coincidence is it - in EVERY store around the entire UK ?
Methinks it was not the other answerer that was the dumba55......

the parent and child spaces aren't legally for ONLY people with kids, they are merely a courtesy of the store/supermarket to make it a bit easier for people with kids, but there is no law or act, which stops people from parking there without kids. |
