Help! I'm in a new town I want to venture out but I'm worried about getting lost!?

I would get a map of the city and then maybe a small phone book for the city. And you can always go a step further and find the address in the book and use map quest and print off the directions and the map. Start small dont make any long trips around the city at first...if your alone. Then build up to further places. If your not alone you should be the one that gets the directions yourself to go anywhere dont get them from anyone since you have to learn how to find places if no one is around at the time. if your not alone you can always ask the other person for hints or help if you think your lost. Dont let them tell you that your both lost.

Study bigger streets on the city map you got (not mapquest) but the whole city alone...make a list of the streets to go back to if your having problems. Always have someone you can call on a phone that might be able to help you. Or ask a business staff member if they know where the place is at.

Above all... have confidence in yourself and dont feel intimidated by the city. Start with small outings. Remember this isnt supposed to be a stressful thing. Your discovering a new enviroment. Its a fun new chapter in life your life and you need to stay positive about that. Just allow yourself extra time and good maps, have a good amount of gas in your car and keep your cell charged just incase you need help.

I moved to Washington state from Colorado a couple of years back, so I can relate. Mapquest is EXCELLENT - you can print out their maps by clicking on the "Printer Friendly" link. I'd also suggest getting a GOOD map of your area, even if it's a little pricey, and keep it in your vehicle, or with you if you travel by public transportation. Just having a good map has made me feel a LOT more confident about getting out and about. If you get lost anyway, stop at a pizza parlor to get directions - those delivery drivers KNOW their way around!!!

Get a GPS (garmin.com) or costco. They tell you where you are and how to get to where you want to be. They can also find your favorite restaurant. Plus, once you program in a HOME it takes two clicks on the screen to get you there...I love mine.

Get a road map. Got money, get a GPS navigation device for your car. They run between $150 on up, but well worth it.

I moved to a new town with my boyfriend and had to drive him to work every day in the next city, then drive home. I drove all around town all day looking for a job, so I got to know the city inside and out, back streets, secret parking lots with no meters...Next thing I know, Im a local yokel, telling my friends in town how I stumbled on a great mexican restruant they hadn't been to.

Get a local map, look in the paper for someplace to go, map it out - create a destination and drive there. Have fun, and if you get lost, keep driving until you get un-lost...you'll be fine, just get in the car and go!

Whenever you want to go somewhere, just print out a map/ directions from Yahoo!, MSN, Mapquest etc. Keep the maps in a folder or binder. Soon you will have a mini atlas of your new area.

The best way to not get lost is always kept a map in your car and also mapquest an also help. I have a gps it would help with directions to a location.

most phone books have 1-2 page maps.....tear one out......
