With the car centered in the doorway, hang some strings from the ceiling that touch the sides of each fender. Move the car ahead about another foot and hang another string on each side. Keep doing this until you are all the way in. You may want to put soft rubber balls on the end of each string to keep them in place. The next time you enter the garage, you can use these as a guide to make certain you are perfectly centered. You will still need to fold the mirrors. |

Yes...and it works, my grandparents do it. Hang a few wiffle balls from strings off the ceiling around the perimeter of the garage. That way if you hit them you know your getting close.... |

I have a really small garage and a Golf which lets face it isn't a huge car but it is a challenge! we also have a brick pillar built sticking out of the wall right where the drivers door should open! I always find the best way to do it is to make sure no one else is in the car, make them get out first, then drive in slightly further over on the passenger side so you have more room to get out, even an extra inch can make all the difference! I also used to get out of mine before the door reached the pillar on the side and push it in the rest of the way from the boot which meant leaving the handbrake off but it sure made it easier to get in and out! |

I have this problem too, but thankfully my garage is a little bigger than that. make sure that you are totally straight before you drive in and pray to God that you are. i was backing out of my garage once and i took the driver's rearview mirror right off. it was bad. |

Get a smaller car or widen the garage.
The old one car garages weren't built for the larger cars and suvs of today.

Reversing in is the easiest. |

Reverse in and once you are straight , get out and fold in the mirrors |

With only 6 inches to spare, it's really a chore to park your car in the garage day in day out. Whether you manoeuvre straight in or do the reverse, sooner or later, you will either hit or scratch something on a day when your attention is a little less focused or distracted.
Only solution really is to get a smaller car if you don't have any intention to relocate where you can have a bigger garage. If not, sorry, you got to live with it and master the 'precision piloting' even with your eyes closed. Practice makes perfect. |

Hi, I am a driving instructor and can help you. There are 3 different ways to approach this: Move as slowly as possible in order to give you the maximum amount of time to think and correct any mistakes and avoid an accident, get someone to guide you (if available) and if possible the best way of all is to use the wing mirrors or if there is not enough room to use them both then fold the drivers one in and leave the nearside mirror open. Keep glancing at your mirror/s as you enter the garage and when you can see that the same amount room is available on each side of the car then you will stay in exactly the same position all the way in and avoid an accident. Hope this helps. |

we have this problem. the white posts of the garage door frame were white, they now match the colour of the car! when my wife reverses in I have to go find the cat first. |
