My friend told me that it is necessary to use the parking brake every time you park. The only thing is my parking brake has always been down and I never pushed it up before. She said it was bad for the engine which I do not believe it even has anything to do with the engine. Correct me if I am wrong. Do you all use your parking brake at all or do you not pay attention to it like me? Is it bad if we don't use it?

i have a manual so yes i do use my parking/ E brake
no you do not have to use and no it really has nothing to do with thr engine
it is recomended that if you park on a hill you use it |

It is very much well-advised to use the parking brake (otherwise known as the "hand-brake") when you park your car. It is an integral part of the basic safety and precautionary measures when you leave your car at the parking zone.
Also, do not forget to put your parking brake down when you start your engine and move out from the parking zone. Sometimes, people tend to be forgetful that they are driving with their parking brakes on - this can be dangerous for the engine and also the brake shoes. |

I don't use my parking brake for the parking that I do. It's pretty flat and I drive an automatic. If I park on a hill then I will use it as a precaution. I don't think it has anything to do with the engine. It can be bad if you drive with the parking brake on. Sometimes my husband will put it in place and I'll have a hard time getting it to release because of the cold. So that's a big reason why I don't use it when I don't really need to. |

i have an automatic and the only time i use it is if i'm parking on a hill.

In my car that is automatic I usually never use my parking brake unless I am on a rather steep incline/decline. In my manual car I use it every time I park just in case it slips out of gear. |

There is no reason to use a parking brake unless you are parking on a steep incline. |
