Hi people please answer?

hi there well i have a provenal and wanna drive my bloke car he is over 25 as held a liesance for over 3 years he is fully comp on insurance can i drive his car with l plates if im not insurance
Additional Details
off course ill have L plates

brett the hippie
probably not, you need plates.

Bardic
I believe you're in the UK, so the American answers will be wrong.

In short, there must be insurance in place for you to drive that car. Your bloke should get his insurers to add you to his policy (making sure to tell them you're a provisional holder).

As long as your boyfriend is in the passenger seat you can drive his car, but he MUST add your name onto his insurance policy to comply with the law. Always display red L plates while you are driving.

No you need to have insurance - doesn't matter if your provisional licence or not. You MUST have insurance to drive otherwise it is illegal

you will need to display L plates and be a named driver on his insurance, and have a compitent driver next to you with a full U.K. licence. and you can only drive on a and b roads not a motorway.

parrish 1911

It is ILLEGAL to drive a car on a public road without insurance. some policies cover you to drive other cars on a third party basis only but i doubt this is the case as a provisional licence holder. If you want to drive your boyf's car, you need to contact your insurer if you have one, or his insurer to arrange cover.

Rules for learner drivers

Before you start to drive, you must:

* hold a valid, provisional driving licence for Great Britain or Northern Ireland
* make sure that any vehicle you drive is roadworthy and properly taxed and insured

It is important to learn safe driving practice from the beginning of your driving career because bad habits are hard to break.

It is unlikely that anyone except an approved driving instructor (ADI) would have the experience, knowledge and training to teach you properly. Learning safe driving habits from the start will improve the safety of yourself and other road users.

If you want to practise your driving with an accompanying driver, the accompanying driver must be over the age of 21 and must have held (and still hold) a full licence, in the relevant vehicle category, for three years.

As a learner driver you must display 'L' plates ('L' or 'D' plates in Wales) in a conspicuous position on the front and rear of the vehicle you are driving.

dont take a chance telephone his insurance company and ask them-----you will certainly get points , a fine or worse!!! if you drive with no insurance

rpolobabemuddyriggerboots
only if you have your own insurance which allows you to drive another viecle with the owners consent! you have to have insurance of some description for yourself.

You need to be a declared driver on his insurance policy - which is probably not the case. A comprehensive policy is not necessarily an 'open driving' policy.

(And please use correct English. I make it at least15 mistakes in spelling and punctuation.)

"Hi there. Well, I have a provisional licence and want to drive my bloke's car. He is over 25 and has held a licence for over 3 years. He is fully comp on insurance. Can I drive his car with 'L' plates if I do not have insurance in my own name?"

NONAME
dude what are you wanting to know? can you drive his car if youre not insured? wouldnt that be up to his insurance company? jeez now im lost thanx alot

terrellfastball
Most insurance covers all licensed drivers that have permission to drive the vehicle from the owner. He needs to ask his agent to be sure.

In any case, I hope you can drive far better than you spell.

That all depends if his insurance covers other drivers.

You cant drive the car unless you have a license holder with you so dont even think about driving it while youre alone.

UCANTCME
As long as the owners insurance will cover other drivers besides the insured, I see no problem but they would have to check this with their insurance company.

Good luck.

No I Plates only cover vehicles for Fully Qualified Drivers. They are not intended for use in Teaching Learner Drivers. You Will need to be added to your Boyfriends Insurance policy. or take your own Policy for the car you intend to drive.

honkonthebobo
yes, his insurance covers the car and all drivers.
