a friend of mine is panicking coz he hit a wing mirror. there was no real damage but thinks he shouldve dun sumthin about it. should he?

Yes he should have stopped and left his details on the other car.
He could also be done for leaving the scene of an accident. |

He may have been seen and had his registration number taken. If there was any damage, he could be charged with driving away from the scene of an accident.
Therefore, he should immediately either return, seek out the car and owner and offer to pay for the damage or report it to the police. My wife did a similar thing recently and reported it to the police - they were fine about it and kept a record incase anyone got in touch. Apparently they get people doing this all the time.

The correct course of action is to ring the police & give them details. Nothing will probably happen, but in the event of anyone witnessing the incident, it won't then be classed as a 'hit & run'.
You should NOT leave name, address or contact details. The reason for this is that an unscrupulous owner, or even a passer by, could then claim that you've seriously damaged their car, or injured them. Any honest owner with a genuine grievance will contact the police, who can then pass on your details, and the issue can be sorted from there. |

The decent thing would have been to leave a note, saying sorry, it was an accident, name and address, and offer to pay for the damage.
