Hospital disabled car parking !!!?

I have just read in our local, that unless you park in a disabled space, you will have to pay the £1.70 charge for the first three hours. We have only a handful of spaces and usually find they are full, there are a lot of disabled people around and most of us aren't earning, if you have a problem walking, and you have to park outside the hospital. What's next I wonder.

Oh, I wish you hadn't asked this question. I tend to get on my hobby horse with this. I am disabled, unable to work, or walk and yet, more often than not, have to park outside the hospital grounds because there are no disabled spaces, (very limited number and quite often filled with an abled bodied drivers' car), and if I could get into the normal carpark, yes, I would have to pay. As my only income is a limited pension, I have to take care of the pennies just so I can see the pounds. I visit the hopital normally once or twice a month. I don't find it amusing. |

The fact that someone is registered disabled and entitled to the perks of a blue badge in no way implies they are incapable of earning or paying to park.
The disability discrimination act prevents discrimination on the basis of disability yet you still get to generally park closer to the door/lifts. Can park on double yellow lines (which mean no parking!!).
Some hospitals charge no matter how fit or not your are, and others have no charge at all... |

sad isn't it...especially at a hospital. Petition the hospital to create more disabled spaces. they make enough money... |

At my local hospital, minimum charge is £2.50/2hours. I must say, if you are at hospital for treatment, free would be good.
For info, I am currently working at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge - it costs me £12.50/day. I have just finished working at Stoke Mandeville hospital - £5/day. |

I had an appointment about three months ago at a hospital in Liverpool, and the car park was downhill from the hospital, meaning I had to walk uphill (steeply) for at least half an hour to get to the cardiac ward(which has been moved to a new location by the way). In the end (about 100 yards from the enterance) a nurse who was passing asked if I needed any help and got a porter to find a wheelchair for me. It was only when I got inside (by the way, yes it took a good 5 minutes to get to the cardiac ward once inside)that they informed me it was possible for me to be picked up straight outside the door if my mum wanted to drive around from the car park and get me. There was another carpark, for people with disabled badges, but it still cost £2 (for 2 hours i think) even if you have a badge and you would have to catch a bus to gey to the building. I think hospital planners should think more about the fact that people are ill when designing the buildings. Nice to speak to someone who understands the problems we face! |
