How Hot Can the Fire get in a Plane Crash and Could a Fire Proof Blanket Protect you while trying to escape?
|
I have this Ideal... But I dont know if it would work... I would bring a fireproof blanket on the airplane and if something bad would happen then I would cover my self with it for the flash fire then escape!!! What do you think? Could it work or will the fire be too hot for the the fire proof blanket? Additional Details well I have more chance holding my breath and getting out alive then being burnt up in the begining lol

In a confined space fires fueled by flammable or combustible liquids (jet fuel, hydrolic fluid) can easily reach 1500 degrees, plus all the smoke and toxic gases. If the fire was in the incipent (begining) stage, the blanket would certainly help your chances. |

when the fire is hot enough to melt aluminum, steel, titanium, and all sort of metals, that is hot.
when the two planes rammed into the twin towers, about 30mins later it was about 3500degree F. That's hot. like the Paris Hilton will say. |

In a 1500-degree fire you don't want anything that can trap heat, like a fire-proof blanket. That thing would melt instantly. If it doesn't melt, you are looking at trapping super-heated toxic fumes underneath it, exposing yourself to even worse problems if you do survive the crash. The best way to avoid being burned is to wait for the fireball to bypass you while you protect your head and torso in a good crash position, and then staying as low to the floorboards as possible while you make your way to the emergency exits, if you are able. |

It will consume all the available oxygen, which a blanket won't help you with, |

It's not the fire, it's the smoke that gets you. there are hoods you can buy that allow you to breathe while escaping. There was talk of making them available on passenger flights, but that fell through. Who knows why. Supposedly, you can still buy them. Here's the link for the hood. |
