How an airbag counteracts the forces during a car accident?

when an air bag is set off in the car there is an explosion within the bag and the explosion inflates the bag just as the car is stopping and your upper body, ie (head) starts to move forward. the airbag deploys at over 200 mph and provides an "instant cushion" to block your head from the steering wheel. cause believe me the steering wheel hurts. i got into an accident ad fractured my head on the wheel and went temporarily blind for a 27 days. the airbags have holes around the area of the steering wheel to let the gas out so they wont pop. but the power of the explosion keeps them inflated until seconds after the collision. they automatically deflate out the same holes so you can move around.

a side air bag and/or curtain airbags do the same but for the windows and side of car. some come out from the seat and some from the seat belt pull out area, next to your head the idea with these is when your hit on the side the car moves in the direction of the impact but your head doesn't, so if there were no air bag you head would probably smash against the side window or surrounding trim, which is bad, so the air bag which resembles a curtain covering the window instantly so there is less damage to you.
