How can I better my persuasive speech about making the seat belt an option rather than a law?

So I am giving a speech about the seat belt law in CA. Basically I will try to persuade the audience that the law should not be a law but an option. So basically I need some help on sources and on how I should set it up. Like the main things that I wanted to tell my class was that seat belts save lives, but lives are also lost by it as in if a car flips over and chokes someone like "Crash (the stereotype movie), or if a car is burning, a person if trapped in the car because of the seat belt being jammed or too hot to touch. Also other things I want to say is that some people (older generation) find it uncomfortable and that it is not good to wear them. As for example, my father hates the seat belt. He comes up with the truest thoughts though. His examples is like, lets say you are in an emergency or something happens and you have to run out of your car, we my dad says that during those situations, most people don't even think and just try to run out the car, but if they have the seat belt on, it will keep them trapped and they will panic even more to take it off and by that time it could be too late.
So basically from what I said you think I have good stuff? Should I add things? Give me insight and ideas on what I should add fix or say. Also I need to include 6 sources so if you know of a source that I can use that would be helpful that would be great.

The law is a good law designed to protect the mentally challenged and the arsseholes of the world from hurting themselves in motor vehicle collisions. Just leave it be. Trust me; they have numerous other ways to 'off' themselves that we have no way of controlling. We can only hope they do it before they breed. |

I will tell you why they cannot be an option. Majority thinks that it should be up to them if they don't care about dying at the wheel or if it's their problem if they get seriously injured. What everybody is forgetting is that there is very big financial responsibility when the driver dies and no longer pays his dues or under insured driver gets injured and have his bills at the tax payer expense. It is wrong. Our insurance rates are only this high because of the amount of damages caused on the roads every day - people forget about their portion of responsibility and don't believe anything will happen to them.
If you stick to proper safety and stay prepared for critical situations, you will not burn in your car or otherwise get screwed by your seatbelt. There is simply not enough driver education in this country. |
