Im 16 years old and i will be 17 years old in August and i am very very scared when i get behind the wheel. My legs and hands start shaking and i sweat and feel like im going to throw up! I don't have my license yet, i have my permit and i was driving with my dad and i was so scared , i made it okay out of my neighborhood and when i came out on the main roads i guess i completely panic and i didn't make a complete stop at the stop sign because my dumb *** was following the car in front of me while i was turning and apparently i jump out in front of a car so it hit me and my dad was just life I CANT BELIEVE THIS !!!!! pull over and it was like i could not move ! So i was starting to drive and pull over by a nearby bank and i could barely stop i was so shook up ! I cried for like ever ! I haven't had a whole lot of driving time because i have only drove with my parents like four times. Im so scared ! Whats wrong with me??? What should i do?

It's nerves. I was just like you, and I would shake and I actually almost had a wreck into a building because I thought I had my foot on the break because I get so scared and I forget which one is which. But you know, It's nothing unnormal for you to be completely scared of it. Just practice and keep practicing and yes I know it's scary but if you keep practicing I know you'll be okay not so shaky behind the wheel. When you do get behind the wheel take deep breaths and forget who is sitting beside you and pay real close attention to the road. You'll get it down in no time. I used to drive all the time with my mom but my permit expired so now I have to wait till I go get my license in April. Don't worry though, just pay close attention to yourself and if you have to ask your dad or mom for advice or ask them a question on your driving or what you need to do at a certain stop sign then do so! Don't be afraid to ask, just jump right in. Driving can be scary only if you make it scary but if you don't focus on the other cars as much then you should get used to it. Plus, you said that you haven't had much experience so that's normal. Good Luck and I know you will do better next time! |

You need to practice more driving go practice in a vacant parking lot. That helped me a lot...Don't let fear get to you...just be calm |

You just need to practice. Everyone starts somewhere. One thing to help: don't be focused on your front bumper and what's right there. You need to be looking further ahead and keeping an eye out but also watch your surroundings. It will take awhile but you'll get used to it! |

i have the exact same problem! im supposed to get my license in july and my parents already bought me a car and i am not ready for that. what people keep telling me is practice so i have been going around in parking lots and my neighborhood to get more simple driving down. my parents have been seeing an improvement so try it and good luck! |

Sounds like you just need to be bich slapped! There's nothing to driving. It's easier than learning how to ride a bicycle since you don't have to balance the car like you do a bicycle! You could always become real rich and hire a chauffeur to drive you everywhere. |

Who has been teaching you to drive? Driving is not something that you simply get in a car with your dad and start driving on the streets. Your father is not competent to teach you how to drive. You NEED to take professional driving instruction so as to learn the laws and proper driving techniques. There is nothing wrong with you -- what is wrong is the driving instruction you are receiving.
