How can I stop getting shocked every time I step out of my car?

It happens EVERY time! What can I do? It's starting to hurt!

The old answer is: Stop getting out of your car!

The question is what creates the charge that is shocking you.

Does it really ALWAYS discharge when you leave the car or only when you wear certain fabrics? Do you have fabric or faux-leather (plastic) seat covers? Do you live in a hot, dry location?

It's all environmental...and why it discharges when you leave the car.

You could spray your car seats with an anti-static spray.

Some say that spraying with Febreze helps and smells better too.

I've heard that a fabric softener sheet in the dryer helps for a short time. No pun intended.

As someone mentioned: you may want to stay in the car at the refueling station...static discharge plus gas fumes could be a deadly mixture.

Good luck to you with that...

Buy rubber floor mats. It will stop the charge. Or wear rubber gloves while driving but thats not to fashionable.

Many years ago this was a common problem due to the fabric used in automobile upholstery, so to eliminate the shock, they fastened a leather strap or something similar to the rear bumper so as to drag on the ground, This they claimed grounded the car and got rid of the static electricity, which is what you're getting.
I have also seen where they dragged braided copper or brass instead of leather.
If this is happening, be extra carefull when fueling your vehicle, do not leave the pump in the car and then try to grab it without first putting your finger on the door to discharge the electric in your body, otherwise you could go "boom".

When you close the door?
I HATE that. Happens to me to.
Sometimes i use something else like my purse for example to help push the door in, then I avoid getting shocked.

hmmm...what i do makes me look crazy, but it works sometimes, not all the time...when i open the door i make sure i don't touch it with anything except with my hand, but i have to slap my hand on the car fast or hard, so that i don't get shocked...lol...crazy right...i know...i always wonder what else works...guess i will keep you on my watch list...

maybe u could try wearing gloves or diffrent kind of shoes but use rubber gloves like the ones in a docter's office.email me if it works if it don't i'll keep pitching ideas my email address is AirRocker29@yahoo.com

Iam!!
Have your car checked for an electrical short. If that isn't the problem, it could be as easy as what you wear, to what you are washing your clothes in. But if it happens every single time, I would say something in the wiring.
