How can I take an actual driving exam if I don't own a car or know someone?

I am legally new here in USA. In order to obtain a drivers licence I need to pass the written and actual exam. I don't have a car or know someone to use it during the actual exam but I have an international driver's licence from a foreign country.

Please tell us what state you are in. Some states specifically DISALLOW the use of a rental vehicle for a driver's test; for example: Pennsylvania - no :

Also, some rental companies DO NOT allow you to use their vehicles for testing purposes.
However, in high-immigrant areas such as California, there are rental car companies that specialize in renting cars for DMV exams; they are usually located near the driver's license offices.
As stated previously, you may want to join a driver's education course; most provide a vehicle for you to test at the DMV. |

You should be legal driving on the international license. Unless you are here as a permanent resident, this should be good enough. You should be able to rent a car and drive it legally to an exam, however. |

The international license is good for renting a vehicle. However you need to look at the experiation date on the international license. When I have obtained them prior to overseas trips they were only valid for a couple of months. |

Some car rental agencies advertise that they rent cars for driving exams. I assume that someone renting a car for a driving test would not already have a license. You might check that out. Look in the yellow pages. Maybe you could find someone with a license to help. |

If you don't know or can't borrow one, you may have to wait to do so. I was thinking you could rent one, but you need a drivers license for that!
May want to offer some money on craigslist or something like that to borrow a car. |
