How can i get over my fear of driving on the freeway?

i can drive anywhere just not on a freeway why! how can i stop it.. my familes tries to force me onto it once while i was driving my aunt turnes the wheel and pushed on the gas so i coould go down the ramp! i get teased about it and i feel trapped how do i get over this fear!

It's not hard. I teach a lot of nervous drivers how to handle the freeway.
First of all, if possible use a car that has cruise control. It is easier to get over your nerves if you don't have to focus on both the speed and the traffic. When you get more comfortable with steering, turn off the cruise and use your accelerator to control your speed.
Stay in the right lane. It is by far the safest lane to travel in, and has the fewest accidents. In the right lane you can control if cars entering the expressway enter in front of you, or if you stay in front of them.
Practice in an area where traffic is lighter, and practicing at night is usually better, because it is easier to see all the traffic, and there is usually less traffic. Try to drive a longer distance, such as 45 minutes to an hour at first. You will get over your fears quickly when you realize the freeway is by far the safest road to travel. |

You just have to face your fears. get on the freeway and get in the middle lane, here's why I say the middle lane.
1: If you get in the far left lane that's the fast lane and people will be speeding and it's gonna freak you out.
2: If you stay in the far right lane you will have to deal with all the other cars merging on to the freeway from the on ramps.
3: If you are in the middle lane it will force you to stay in your lane and be conscious of the cars around you, because they will be on both sides of you.
4: And finally, If you do freak out you only have to get over one lane to get off the freeway

well dont be ashamed i got on the freeway for my first time the other day. i am 16 i just started driving and i dont like getting on there but i have to pretty much everywhere i drive. it isnt all that bad once you get on it. |

Just keep driving on the freeway. This faces up to it. Try and go on there for one mile, then two, etc., I think this will take care of your fears. There is probably a lot other drivers scared too. So, just do it often!!! |

pretend yyou are on a three lane road and if you are in the middle watch out for cars to get in front of you on both sides, and dont drive behind big rigs so you can see ahead of you until you get used to it, drive the freeway when its not crowded for practice . good luck if youfeel a panic attack coming on pull over and stop, or get off the freeway and try again later |

I think the best way would be to drive the freeway during none rush hour times and get some practice driving the freeway. You have to face your fears. |
