How can i stop my toddler from undoing his seat belt whilst in the car?

That might work, and as others have suggested there's that practice of spanking...

However, if it continues to be a problem, maybe consider wrapping something like an ace bandage or a velco strip around the buckle? It wouldn't change the functionality of the seat any, would be easy for an adult to remove, and it should keep the button from being easily pressed by junior.

I use to tell my girls that the car won't run if the belts are not buckled. Took them on the back roads to the ice cream store one day and when my youngest tried to take her belt off I slowed down (I could see her in the mirror) and shouted "who took off their belt!!! My car is slowing down!!" She immediately buckled up again and I said that if I had been on the highway and going fast I could have had an accident!!! She never ever unbuckled again

check the automotive dept. in Wal-Mart, they have these things that slide down over the seat belt clasp.

can you reinforce the belt clasp with soem kind of rope? You can do complicated knot and he won't be able to undo it :)

Lots of kids do this, and the best option is always discipline. Let him know that if he does not keep his belts buckled, he doesn't go anywhere. And prove it to him. It may take a few screwups of your schedule a few times (I missed an appointment once to prove it to mine) but it will get the message across that you mean business. A great idea is to ask him if he wants to go to the park. If he unbuckles on the way there, turn around and go home. Do this as many times as it takes until he doesn't unbuckle anymore.

My question to you is this: is he sitting in just a booster seat? That is likely part of the problem. Booster seats are not for toddlers. Most kids are not ready for a booster seat until they are 5-6 years old. They should stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. Most seats at Walmart/Target and such will harness to 40lbs, but there are seats that will harness longer if you need it. Like my son, the giant almost 3 year old, who is 39lbs and 40inches! LOL Its a lot harder for a child to undo a harness than just a seatbelt, and they are much safer in it!

So 1) discipline, let him know he doesn't go bye-bye if he unbuckles
2)make sure he is in a 5 point harness seat

Pull over- spank his bottom- put him back in his seat and tell him not to undo his seatbelt again. Next time all you have to say is "Do you want me to pull this car over?"

tell him not to undo his seat belt because if you wreck he could probably get killed or get thrown from the car or just tell him to leave it on.
