Street signs can be figured out by shape and color. Are you asking why they don't just give the tests in English then? I really don't understand, I guess because we refuse to demand that people learn the language and since it isn't the national language they get the choice to demand it or not.

Perhaps it's because the main language in the US is still English. Do you realize how large street signs would be to accommodate all those who don't take the time to learn English? When I was stationed overseas, I took the time to learn at least some of the local languages out of respect and necessity. I will not press 1 for English when I call any Company I deal with!

That's why most of the safety related signs have international pictures / symbols included and not words only..

1. You do not need to be able to read the words on the signs to drive.
2. I have seen signs in French on Interstate 87 near the Canadian border.
