How do I get my stubborn brother to wear his seatbelt in the car?

he is 10years old and epileptic (he has seizures) and extremely stubborn. when he gets into something, he won't stop talking about it or doing it in this case. Whenever he is in the car or on the bus (he rides the little bus to school) he refuses to wear his seat belt. This has been going on for at least 2 weeks now and he doesn't understand that he needs to wear it. we never had this problem before! no matter what anyone tells him, he still does not put it on. No matter what threats we tell him, nothing gets through. he won't let anyone even try to put his seat belt on for him. if we do miraculously get him strapped in, he unbuckles it while we're driving! PLEASE HELP ME GET HIM TO CONSISTENTLY WEAR HIS SEAT BELT!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WITH (your favorite food) ON TOP!

Dealing with children that have disorders or disabilities can be challenging. As the first person said, maybe you could try to give him an incentive. Basically, I mean you should ask him to put his seat belt on, and tell him that if he does, then you will do something special for him or give him something for doing it. This isn't like dealing with a normal child because with normal children you can reason with them. With disabled or mentally challenged children, you have to give them incentives if they understand what you are saying. Trying to get him to put his seat belt on by talking to him isn't working. So try the method of giving him an incentive. And threatening him won't work, because that only causes him to rebel more. |

Tell him you want to take him to one of his favorite places, then when he gets all excited, say oh, I guess we can't because you won't wear your seat belt so we can't go. Enough times that he can't do something, he'll figure out if he wants to go, he has to follow the rules, or not get what he wants. |

you could pretend the car wont start with out his "help"
and all he has to di is to put on his seat belt and that putting on the seat belt started the car!
