I was grinding away the rusted sections and the paint around them on my 1969 vw bus. I tried to hold my breath or breathe through my shirt when I was grinding. I wasn't wearing a mask so I still breathed a little in. How can I find out if the paint is lead-based?

LAB RAT

Get a respirator if you are working on a 1969 VolksWagen. The paint is lacquer based but VolksWagen used lead filler in the body seams. Hit a seam with your sander and you will be breathing 100% lead dust.

Eat some of it, see if you die.

UCANTCME

Call your local environmental health department...and if not then use a respirator.....
