How do I politely tell someone that I refuse to let my children ride of a car without a car seat?

An acquaintance of mine invited me and my children over to their house to play with their new puppies, but the issue is we don't have a vehicle so she wants to pick us up. I have three children so there is not enough room in her vehicle, and she suggested that they just squish in there without car seats or sit on my lap. They are only 5, 4 and 2 years old. She acted like this was only a matter of breaking a little law, instead of the reality of putting my children's lives in danger. How do I tell her that she's really out of line for asking me to do this?

I completely understand how difficult this situation is, you don't want to offend your friend but are not willing to put your children at risk. Explain to your friend that you do not feel comfortable with your children traveling without appropriate seats.
Suggest that you make the meeting at the weekend when you can walk over, or make the journey by public transport, whichever is more appropriate with the distance that must be traveled.
Another possibilitiy is that she brings the puppies to you, once they are a little older. It does not have to become a huge issue or affect the relationship between you...if you are honest and uncombative!! |

Just don't go and tell your friend that your children are more important.. |

Tell her that you want to demonstrate that laws are NEVER to be broken, no matter how insignificant they seem. Accidents are not called "on purposes" because you can't predict when they will happen. You might not be concerned about HER driving, it's the other crazies on the road you are worried about. I don't think anyone could argue about that. I've had the same situation and made it clear that I NEVER go without a car seat. I couldn't live with myself knowing I was risking chldren's lives. |

there should not be any question of the kids safety, just tell here that and she should respect it |

What's to be polite about. Her cavalier attitude is just begging for an 'adjustment'. Administer it at will. Your children's lives are at stake here. All you have to do is determine which is more important. Them or her friendship. The choice should be a no-brainer.
If she is offended that's too bad for her. She is totally wrong to even suggest putting young children in a motor vehicle without proper protection. |

Its your children..you don't have to explain anything to her, especially if she doesn't have enuff common sense to realize the safety factor..This also probably the same type of person that would want u 2 pay for the individual tickets she would receive for each child if she were stopped by the police.. |

its your kids safety, the simple answer is "i nor my children will ride in the car without my kids car seats". its that simple, if she gets mad, let her be mad, that just shows a lack of respect on her part. |

You have to explain that your kids are important to you and that if they were hurt you would not forgive yourself. |

The nasty part of me wants to say offer to send snacks and ask what flavor wine coolers go best with hash brownies... I mean they are *just* laws ya know!
No... I'm with everyone else. It is a 'matter of fact' thing that *my* kids will always ride in carseats. In fact, *your* kids will always ride safely if they will be riding in my car. It is just not something I want to live with if 'just this once' turns out to be the one time something horrible happens. I would have looked at her like she had three heads and let her know that this was just *not* happening with my kids... ever. |

Just say that you dont want to risk been stopped by the police and then been fined. Say that they have fined a lot of people in your area recently for that offence. |
