California has the longest running aggressive driving media program in the country. The program also uses enforcement patrols. The program, known as Smooth Operator, was started in 1988 to deal with increasing traffic congestion in the major metropolitan areas. This program is no longer being conducted, however, the public information and education materials are still available.

it wont do much good unless you get the license plate # off the tractor not the trailer. by the time they can research the trailer its probably in another state and went through many other drivers. |

First of all you can take down their license plate number and report it to the police or highway patrol, and you can also call the company whom he is driving for, usually that is somewhere on the truck in big letters. |

It depends on the state and maybe even the area.
It also depends on the nature of the aggressive driving.
If it is just some hillbilly driving a little too fast or honking his horn or acting generally rude, let him by and pray for his significant other or subordinates (as they really need it).
If it is a real clown driving really too fast and/or weaving in and out of traffic and/or running into people or forcing them to dive for cover and/or firing weapons, CALL 911. These clowns need CHP intervention. DO NOT attempt to engage a clown like this. He has already shown that he has no regard for your safety so why take a chance on your widow watching your demise on the TV news.
In Virginia (and maybe some of other Mid-Atlantic states), one can dial #77 from their cell phones (instead of 911) and get right straight to the proper authority. |

i drive a 18 wheeler. .What you want to do is get the truck number up on the front corner of the nose of the truck and get the trailer number up on the top corner in the rear of the trailer. Then call ask for safety. After all this the company will take your statement and sometimes the driver never hears about it. Companies receive so many complaints a day that they can not control them all. Alot of people will complain about anything and make it much worse than it really is. I work for a smaller company that if there is no damage they really don't care. The only thing that happens to me is my dispatcher calls and says hey I got a complaint on you I say OK and its over. The best thing for you to do is stand clear of a big truck give him room and respect. |

Most big rigs have a "HOW'S MY DRIVING? CALL 800-###-###"
and the truck # is listed. |

The CHP can't do anything unless the actually SEE a violation, so calling THEM is pointless.
Look for one of those "how's my driving?call 1-800-XXX-XXXX) thingys. If there Is none, write down the plate # and try to find a phone # for the trucking Co who owns the rig.
Private owner? forget about it. |

Note the license number as well as the company names on the tractor AND the trailer.
In non-emergency situations, make complaints to the trailer owner (they can choose not to use a certain truck owner after so many complaints), the tractor owner (as long as it's not an owner/driver), and the local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction or the California Highway Patrol. You can call information for the non-emergency number for the local CHP office.
In an emergency, dial 9-1-1. In California 9-1-1 from cell phones are routed to CHP dispatch. Try to know where you are so you can tell the dispatcher. What roadway or highway are you on? What direction are you traveling? What is the nearest cross street, exit or mile post marker and about what speed is the vehicle traveling? (I.E. "north bound I-5 at whatever exit traveling about 65 miles an hour" would be very helpful information for locating you or the other vehicle.) |

you pull over get your cellphone out and call directory assistance for the number of the local police department . not 911 - thats for emergencies.and you tell them what happened together with the offenders licenceplate number. chances are somebody else allready complained about him. if so they will send an officer over to his place and he will speak to him . his insurance company is not going to send him any fan mail if they find out. |

You dial 911.
Then hope he isn't the one delivering your dinner. Be nice, and share the road. Without us truck drivers, you wouldn't have anything to buy at the store.
If he is truly driving recklessly, call 911. Get his truck number and the name of the company. A description of the truck would help also, as well as location, speed and direction. If he just ticked you off because he wouldn't let you over, grow up and get over it. |
