Drive your car into a brick wall and find out!

An object in motion tends to remain in motion unless acted on by an outside source.

The person and the car are going down the road at 65 and hit something. The car stops, the person continues to travel at 65 until he hits something. If that something is the windshield or the steering wheel, or the pavement, much damage happens to the person.

If a big air bag opens and holds the person steady at the moment of impact, and then deflates, there is much less damage.

No website, just information from the way things are.

Scenario:
Driver A is driving a 1985 F150, 5.0L V8, hits tree headon, perfectly centered, at 45MPH. Steering wheel is found embedded three inches into his brain, driver is dead on scene.

Driver B is driving a 2005 F150 4.6L V8, hits same tree dead center at 45MPH. Driver walks away with cuts and bruises, airbag burns and is out one pickup truck.

Which driver would you rather be, A or B?.

Would you rather hit you're head on the dashboard/steering weel and permantly scar you're face for life or hit you're head on a soft airbag? I know which one i would choose.

they stop you hitting the dash and steering wheel as my husband found out the other night, but the gas from them also burnt his lips.

edgarl
They help absorb the kinetic energy of the upper body's forward motion when the vehicles forward progress is suddenly halted by impact.

i dont know ive been in two car accidents when air bags went off and becasuse of the seat belt locking up the air bag didnt even touch me guess there good if dont wear ur seat belt

Lisa T
The air bag inflates on impact making the are softer when the body hits it. So instead of hitting a hard steering wheel, you hit a cushioned inflated bag.

Put it this way - would you rather smash your head into your steering wheel / windscreen or an air balloon??
