How do do you fight speeding when no radar was used?

you could try prevention- slow down. That way you don't have to worry about speeding tickets.

If a Police Officer wrote you a speeding summons without using radar, that means 1 of 2 things: either they "paced" you using the calibrated speedometer in their car and they matched your speed over a certain distance or they calculated your speed based upon skidmarks utilizing a mathematical formula that is taught to all accident investigators.

To fight the 1st type of ticket, the "pace" or "clock", depending on location, the Officer has to testify to a certain number of points before you can be found guilty, if he/she misses 1 of them the summons could be dismissed.

Fighting the 2nd type of ticket, is absolutely impossible, because the formula is nationally recognized and is based upon physical evidence left at the scene of an accident.

In either case, you might want to consider a) hiring an attorney - because they know what evidence & testimony an Officer has to present in order to convict or b) simply paying the summons.

There's a number of ways an officer can legally determine your speed. It would cost you more to fight the ticket than to pay it.

You plead not guilty and pray the cop doesn't show up for court. At which time the ticket will be thrown out.

Trust me (I am a former cop) you may fight it but you will not win.

Years ago, I sped through an 'empty' street passing a motorcycle cop in position, but without radar. Afterwards, I did research online.

I read that a cop needs to be able to prove the exact speed of the driver, which gives me the impression it's possible to successfully argue the speed noted on the ticket is not correct and, therefore, should be dismissed in the absence of measurable equipment (even if the driver was truly speeding at a different speed).

The ticket was paid, but it sounds like it can be true.

For your information, more than 90% of all speeding tickets are written without radar being used. All the officer has to do is tail your vehicle for about two thousand feet to determine that you were speeding; then he can pull you over. In fact, most officers don't even have to tail you; they are experienced enough to judge simply by looking to determine how fast you were going. Just pay the fine, accept the points and live with it! Just go to court and say NOT guilty. You will get off as the cop wont show up and it will be tossed out of court.
That is unless you were really going fast or you were a smart *** and pissed him off.
Cops dont go to court for every little ticket. Chances are you can beat it this tiime unless you have a long history,if the cop shows you will have to pay the ticket unless your girlfriend is the judges daughter and he likes you

As Kiffin says, an experienced cop can accurately call your speed and the courts usually accept that, so the odds are WAY against you unless the cop doesn't show up. Where I live, they get overtime for court appearances, so no-shows are rare.

What difference does it make if it was radar, clocking with the cruiser, the old-fashioned wires across the road, or the "bear in the air"? If you got a speeding ticket, the only possible defence is that it was wrongly issued. In other words, prove you were in Iraq at the time of the alleged offence, and your car was in the shop in Baghdad. Besides, it is a 1986 Tempo, and the transmission doesn't shift out of 1st gear, so it couldn't speed anyway.
