How do you deal with tailgaters?

tap the brake. Usually most people get the point, because they don't want to buy me a new BMW. I always drive the speed limit, so I am not in the wrong - they are.

Remember - if they hit you when this happens, to tell the officer that you thought you saw something run across the road in front of you and you had to avoid it. In rear end collissions, the person to the rear is always at fault.

It's great to hear them slam on the brakes and lock them up when you tap the brake lights.

I tap my brakes just enough to light up my brakelights. Works every time...

Best thing to do is change lanes if you can do it safely. Many people don't want to do this, especially if they are already at, or over, the speed limit - but do it, cause the cops are ahead of you, and that person tailgating you just became your decoy!

If you can't do that, turning on your headlights (if they aren't already on) is a good way to back someone off, as they activate your tail lights without you hitting the brakes and bringing the tailgater even closer...

If that doesn't work, make sure you have plenty of space between you and the car in front of you and continue to drive your speed. Don't let someone force you to drive unsafely!

That's the police's job called road rage and or aggressive driving and they need to do a much better job at it the safety concerns on vehicles today is a joke they let people lift there trucks to high in the air to big of tires in a panic situation the brakes would be overwhelmed and fail and run over some kid and this could be parented if they would enforce the vehicle codes, driving with there driving lights, on blinding oncoming vehicles, tailgating, vehicles high center of gravity has been altered and the make them loud and for what all they have is a unsafe bucket of bolts and the cuts say its OK cause they don't enforce it enough and the list is long and not enough time in the world to tell you all the things people are getting away with on there car and trucks and so why be worried about tailgating it falls in this group and nothing being done , providing you are you say you are do something ?

Take your foot off the gas pedal and coast until they pass. Don't slam on the breaks, they will hit you.

I throw rotten tomatoes at them...one time I only had rotten pineapples along though, and that seemed to work very well also.

This is especially effective if the person tailgating you is a law enforcement official. The law enforcement officials like to tailgate you so that you'll speed up enough for them to pull you over where I am from originally.

Fill your windshield wiper reservoir with something yukky like baby oil, aim your wiper fluid nozzels so that they aim over your car, and squirt their windshields with it. It will make their windshields greasy as they turn on their wipers, therefore unable to see clearly out of them, and they will back off, I can promise you that...!!

If the tailgater is driving a really nice car and there are rocks on the side of the road, I will drive in them so the fly up and chip the front of the paint on the car tailgating.....only do this with old cars you are driving, as the rocks will chip your paint, too.

brake job at first, if they keep at it then I slow down alot, then if they try to pass I speed up a little, and when they do pass I throw something at their car.

In the daytime slow down and let them pass me and In the night push it to 140 mph and see if they can keep up

you slam on your brakes so they hit you!!!! jk......honestly if u want to stay out of trouble, just move to another lane, and if you cant, then ignore it. Its annoying but u never know who u mess with so i wouldnt do anything

speed up ahead of them just a bit then tap on the breaks and then slow down deliberatly until the guy passes you and when he does either yell curse words at him or if you're timid then just flip him off.

well if you live here and your in the left hand lane driving like miss daisy,then get the heck out of the way!!!!and get off the cell phone!!!!but if your in the right lane then tap the brakes to light the brake lights up.
