if you are parked in a parking lot, you should be equally spaced from all 3 painted lines (front/back and both sides)
if you are parking on the side of a street, you should be parked in the same direction as traffic on your side, and no more than a foot from the curb or edge of pavement. |

I'm having driving lessons too at the moment as long you don't park it in the middle of the street you can't go wrong. Also try to park somewhere where there are no cars particularly not expensive ones like Rolls Royce, Jaguar or something like that generally speaking avoid parking close anything you can hit.
funny your avatar's name is the like mine when read from right to left |

With the wheels facing the ground and the roof facing upwards...
But seriously, lol. As the answers above, always park facing in the direction of traffic at night.
Don't park anywhere where you would cause a hazard for instance at a junction... and please, dont leave bits of your car jutting out.
With regards to actually parking your car follow the instruction you had in your driving lessons and if your having difficulty why not look for further lessons concentrating on that task... best advice, take your time and use all your mirrors |

One of the hardest parts of my learning to drive was how to parallel park. There isn’t as much emphasis put on that technique in driver’s education these days, but it’s still an important part of driving.
Practice with no obstacles first, then with plenty of space between vehicles. Take it slowly and you’ll develop the skill and confidence to parallel park.
Use your turn signal to indicate the direction of the parking spot.
If the space is not yet vacant but the car in it is about to leave, wait behind the spot.
When the space is vacant, pull ahead of it until you have pulled up beside the car parked in front of the space. Your rear bumper should be even with that car’s rear bumper with about two feet of road between you.
Put the car in reverse. Begin to back up slowly; as soon as the car starts moving, turn the wheel as far as it will go toward the curb.
Back slowly into the space.
When the back of your car’s front door is even with the rear bumper of the car beside you, begin turning the wheel away from the curb.
Continue turning the wheel away from the curb and backing slowly into the space.
Straighten out the wheel, then pull forward or back in the space as needed to center yourself between the cars in front of and behind you. Your car should be six to eight inches from the curb when you are parked.
