How do you properly do perpendicular parking? Please help me!?

Okay, I am a new driver trying to get my hours in. I am about 40 hours into it, and I am still having trouble with perpendicular parking. I almost hit two cars so far while doing this (and no I am not a bad driver). So can someone please briefly describe how to properly do one, and I want details please. Thank you.

go to a mall parking lot with lots of striping... get some cones, too, if you can....

practice parking between the stripes

when you get real good... pretty accurate... try parking backwards using your side mirrors
