How does it feels after an accident? and when the opposite person is hurt badly by ur vehicle?

I've never been in a at fault crash, but I have been involved in 3 not at fault crashes.

The first, I was injured, but not badly, I was able to speak calmly with the person who hit me and I tried to keep him calm, as he was elderly and had a weak heart. He wished me all the best and shook my hand and was quite polite.

The second, I was uninjured, but my poor car was totalled. I was very upset because it was my pride and joy. These people involved in this crash were rude and couldn't have cared less about me. Not once did they ask if I was ok, despite me asking all of them individually if they were ok, and if I could help them at all. They made rude comments toward me and told the police a lot of lies, despite me having 6 witnesses who all said they ran the red light.

The third, I was hit from behind by a large truck. I was knocked unconscious and suffered a major injury to my back. The driver of the truck was in shock, he was very white and shaking, unable to stand up. I didn't get out of the truck for a while as I was in so much pain and he thought I may have been dead. He was a very nice man and was nearly crying when he was talking to me. I felt very sorry for him and put on a brave face, despite being in a LOT of pain, as I didn't want him to feel too bad. We were both drivers and the last thing I wanted to do was to cause him to lose his job, or to suffer any mental problems.

Its a very difficult situation to be in, because you never know how the other party will react. Some people are very nice and genuine, where as other people are just pigs.

Hmn, I've never been in a situation where the other person was badly hurt, i imagine it would feel awful.

In terms of how I feel after an accident, I usually feel some relief that its over, and an overall sense of 'what the heck happened'

One in particular, I got sideswiped by a semi truck driven by a driver for Tango Transport, and insured by Lincoln General , and me in a small buick, i was shocked by the collision and then secondly the noise, and then the fact that his truck wasnt stopping, and i tried to steer away from it. and it kept pushing towards me, even when i was on the shoulder of the interstate, and then i was able to slow my car down enough that it got ahead of me, i stopped, my heart felt like it was still going 67 miles per hour, and the semi truck kept going on down the road, i tried to find my cell phone, called 911, and tried to start my car, it still ran, and i foolishly went back on the road to get the truck's plates... I gave the mile marker and the plate on the rear trailer of the truck to the 911 lady.

A 'department of public safety' trooper stopped the truck and had me checked out by a set of EMT's, then took photos of the damage to my car... Once the adrenaline died down I was amazed that I had survived, and had a sinking feeling in my stomach when I looked at the side of my car.

Psychological Shock (not the physiological one) dullens the reality of the situation for the moment. This is an interesting response. When we are wounded we usually feel pain but when the mind is stressed enough it shuts down its own 'pain' sensors.

Immediately following an accident there is confusion and suspended rationality. The next day is usually when reality hits. Guilt and post-traumatic episode symptoms might surface. It is best not to be alone the day following a serious accident, even if you are not injured physically.
