InAustralia they're known as a pilot vehicle. Large trucking companies would be the first place to find out the details or the local traffic office

In Texas we call them a "Swamper". Often times you'll see them going down the road at a slow pace. When you do, just look for a company phone number on the back of the truck. This type of work can be difficult on your vehicle, so having a durable car or truck is a good idea. (a truck is highly recommended because you may drive through rough terrain or bad weather). You also want something with good heat, air conditioning and a stereo, this type of job can be boring, but often pays well. Also be prepared for anything, have tools and spare parts handy. When driving behind the truck don't follow too closely, if the truck blows a tire, you want to have time to re-act.

these jobs are usually given to a person with the same category license as the driver of the vehicle with the wide/high/heavy.load. the reason for this is.he can judge where it can safely go and cant go ahead of the following vehicle.makes sense. in eu it is compulsory.,kitt
