How far should you be behind a car at a stop light? ?

In the state of Florida shouldn't u be a full car length behind the car in front of you when at a stop light?

Please give me a website where it shows the law

Carman is correct! You should never pull up behind a car at a stop sign, red light, toll booth, etc. If that car should stall and not start, you have to back out (if the vehicle behind you left room!) and fight traffic to get around the broken down vehicle. Always leave enough space to allow your vehicle a way out from behind a stopped vehicle.

Enough room so you can get out to pass in case the car in front won't move.

I didn't know that there was a specific law regarding the distance. However, I've been told that pulling up and stopping while you can still see the car in front of you rear tires and your hood meet in your line of vision.

I don't know if I said that right or not, but a good distance is where you can see where the front of your car and their rear tires (where they meet the road) line up in your vision. That would give you enough room to pull out and go around them if they had an engine failure.

good luck

can't remember the actual law but usually what i do is make sure i can see the rear tires and if you can see them in their driver side mirror then your alright

There is no specific law that I'm aware of, but the recomendation is far enough back that you can see where their rear wheels meet the road and some of the road surface behind them. The primary purpose of this is NOT to allow you to go around them, but to stop a chain reaction crash. Should you be rearended this space cushion will help prevent you from being pushed into the car infront of you.

Cant find any laws for this but a good general rule is to stay at least a half car or 10 feet behind them...better safe than sorry.
