How fast is a vehicle travelling if it left 38 feet of tread marks when braking? ?

Additional Details
dry weather, a chevy s10 with a camper

dont know much
not an easy one to answer , you would need to know the coefficiant of friction on the road surface and state of the tyres etc .
in road accidents the police have a way of testing the road surface and the friction of the surface , you would also need to know the mass of the vehicle , because it is harder to stop a 20 ton vehicle than a half ton vehicle so I am afraid I cannot ansewer your question but maybe you have an insight as to how you could work out how fast a vehicle was travelling , like the other answerer tho I reckon too fast for comfort !

depends entirely on:
size of the car
weight of the car and whatever was inside
surface of road
weather conditions
size of tires and the compound type
basic mechanics of the car (type of suspension set up,type of brakes etc)

around 20 mph with a big camper and if its a small 1 maybe 30 depending on the weights of the camper.

38 feet is the stopping distance for 30mph so with bad tires and a large load you would leave those marks.

too fast lol

The original Peter G
If it was all 4 wheels locked then it could be almost 40 mph. Remember that the stopping distance tables include reaction time and assume 50% efficient brakes. The skid marks show the actual distance with the brakes applied only

Pretty fast!

Depends- was he in a speed limit place???, 25 miles per hour roughly,. seems a lot, but people forget, half a ton car cannot come to a halt as quickly as us humans can! plus if it was a lorry it would have been going even slower, a motorbike however- very fast! 38ft is only 11.5 meters and a meter isnt that long in the real world of driving!
