How fast should you drive on a family cul de sac with no clear speed limit?

reason i ask is cos i just had a row with a girl who nearly knocked by son down when she should have been able to A. clearly see him as he was far ahead of her, and B. stop instantly. She said she was going TWENTY miles per hour, i am shocked that she thinks that's okay on a residential, one way street full of kids and she had 3 kids in the car! Never mind the fact she was going at LEAST 25 ! She said i am a bad mum for not watching my son, i said he was by my side and she had enough time to see him. She seems to think speeding with your kids in the car is the definition of being a good mum! What a moron!!!

The legal speed limit in a cul de sac is the same as any other residential street. The situation depends. She should have been going (legally) the very last speed limit she saw. So what ever other residential street she turned off of or if it was not (for instance, whether it was a 35 zone or 25 zone), then that would be her legal speed; HOWEVER, if there are kids playing, that denotes road hazards and the children are pedestrians and the cars must yield to them and not impede their space. That is the typical practice nationally for road safety. |

You will go no faster then can be done safely.
It does not matter what the posted speed is, or what the state law is in MPH. All states have what I call a basic speed law! Which means that if she has an accident or causes injury, it is very likely she could be prosecuted for criminal negligence. Unfortunately such recourse does the injured or dead no good. |

its her fault she would have definitely been able to stop
i say it depends on the situation
obviously if its empty and quite large then you can probably go up to about 30ish but if its full of little kids or cars backing out or summat then obv slower |

im not bothered what the speed limit is,if your going down a cul de sac
you know theres a dead end down there sooner or later so you need to be creeping down there at about 10 miles ph,especially if you see kids playing, which is an almost certainty,as parents are entitled to think there kids are safe in there cul de sac, anyone who bombs down cul de sacs is a fool, and needs a good beating. its not about the lawfull speed limit its the moral speed limit they should be thinking of |

You always want to drive at a safe speed which is between 5 - 15 mph. A residential area should be treated with care because you have children that may be playing in the street. If children are running or riding their bikes in the street and you are speeding and don't see them, and you hit them then you have a law suit on your hands. It is best to drive safely at a safe speed. That is just common sense. You don't want to injure someone by driving too fast. Also the law states that you must slow down in residential areas to ensure safety of others and yourself. |

In Indiana Residential Speed Limit is 30 MPH unless marked otherwise.
This seems to be pretty much standard wherever you go in the US, 25 or 30 MPH. |

Are taxis or other vehicles allowed to stop temperaroly on a cul de sac roundabout?
The reason why I am asking is the other day I was reversing out of my drive which backs out onto the roundabout, I didnt see this taxi waiting to pick his fare and consenquently I bumped him causing minor scuff marks, it does need respraying, I hold my hands up and blame myself for not seeing him but should he of been there in the first place when he could of pulled onto the neighbours drive??? he wants £200 cash for getting a bit of a respray done!!! does anyone know what the law states with regards to this scenario? |
