How foot wise are you supposed to drive?
|
I drive with one foot on the gas and break. I heard your supposed to drive with one foot between the two pedals.

Two feet is definitely bad. Usually your one foot is pressing on the gas pedal and you can move it to the brake pedal. Doing both wastes gas, wears out your brakes and could get you into a serious accident if you push the wrong one in an emergency. |

You use the same foot for the gas and brake. The other foot is not used, unless you have a clutch. Using both feet can be dangerous. |

It is customary to drive with one foot working both the gas and the brake. Driving with both feet is fine but will make driving a manual transmission much more difficult.
When driving a manual you must have one foot for the clutch and you never need a foot on both the brake and gas at the same time. |

Resting a foot on the brake pedal may keep your brake lights activated. If so, drivers behind you won't know when you are stopping. It's not a good habit to have. You have plenty of time to get the brake pedal, if you are a good and attentive driver. |

if its an automatic then you are supposed to use one, and if its a stick shift, you use two. |

You are suppose to use one foot unless it is a standard and you need your left for the clutch. Use two feet to drive a automatic car is very dangerous. It might even be illegal. |

I drive an automatic and I've always just used my right foot to alternate between gas and brake. However, my father, who thankfully I didn't learn to drive from, uses his right foot for the gas and his left foot for the brakes. It is horrendous because he winds up stopping short every time we hit a stop sign or red light. |

Use 1 foot usually the right one on the accelerator and brake
don't use both that would result in riding the brakes. |

You are to use your right foot for both pedals, using two feet is dangerous and sometimes confusing....... |

I would think in an emergency one might panic and have thier right foot on the gass and left foot on the brake and not be able to stop. A friend of mine ownes a SUV with an adjustable gas pedal. I was driving and rolled up behind another car, I didn't know it, but I had my right foot on both pedals, the SUV wouldn't stop. |
