How important are your children to you?

the reason i ask this is...on my way to the corner shop this morning i saw a lady putting her baby, which was in a car sit, into the back of her car and not put the seatbelt round it....i also saw this done a couple of months back, and it angered me then, i have a one year old girl, and although i dont drive my mum does, so we had to get a car seat, i would never dream of not making sure her car-seat was strapped in, even when she was younger and i'd have strapped the seat in even if she was sleeping and it meant waking her, her safety was my priority....a car seat can roll about to in an accident....do you all strap your children in? Additional Details i saw her car clearly enough and there was no base for the carseat to sit on, and the seatbelt was where it normally hangs when not in use
and seminole how small minded are you, i am not 12, and my mum drives me and my daughter when we are visiting her, that all i must ad has nothing to do with you

It's not only safer to strap them in but its the law and it would have made me mad too! Just like those individuals who still drive while talking on their mobiles! Laws are there for a reason not to hinder and annoy us!
I would never let my three year old in a car without a car seat, or any other child in my care. It's sheer laziness that means these poor kids aren't safe. That or ignorance but given there are seatbelts in cars and she had a car seat surely you'd think she could put two and two together... |

I make sure that my sons car seat is strapped in and tight! What you have seen makes me so cross, as 3 weeks ago we were in a car crash, and if my sons seat wasn't strapped in he would of gone face first into the drivers seat. |

Unbelievable,do people not watch those rather graphic adverts that show exactly what happens when you don't strap a child in.I'm always telling my kid's to put their seat belts on even if travelling in other peoples cars. They all look at me like muuummmm for gods sake....but they all still do it lol.Too many people think it won't happen to them, well won't happen does happen and by then it's too late. |

Always. And I wouldnt let someone put a strap round a child on their lap either.
I am a Paramedic of 17 years, and the injuries I have seen over the years from STUPID people not looking after their kids makes my blood boil.
Im not allowed to say anything to them at the time though.
Frustrating or what! |

I always make sure that they are fastened in properly in their seats.
I cringe when i see people riding in the front seat with a child on their knee.
To the idiot who was going on about someone's mum driving, what is wrong with that?? She didn't say that it was every day, she may have been talking about when the mum does give the kids a lift. Not everyone can afford to drive as soon as they are legal. |

I always strapped my children in. I am now a grandmother and have bought car seats for my car, so when I have the grandchildren they are always safe. Its also easier that swapping seats between cars when they visit. |

I feel exactly the same.
The amount of times that I've been behind a car with a little 'un climbing all over the back shelf has really left me frustrated.
I bet these parents are the first to start shouting if their kid is getting hit in school though!!!
My car does not go off the drive until the kids are strapped in. |

I always do with my 4 but being honest I did forget once and travelled 3 miles to playgroup with only the baby fastened in. I was mortified though and learnt my lesson. I'll never do it again. |

Seat belts and car seats save lives if they are used properly and at all times. Every state has laws requiring that children be properly restrained in a car seat when riding in a vehicle.
I WOULD HAVE GOT THE LICENSE NUMBER AND REPORTED THEM TO THE POLICE.
SORRY IF IT SOUNDS HARSH BUT THESE ARE CHILDREN AND WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. |

it may have been one of the new style seats where you have a base that is always strapped into the car and you can take the seat out easily , it just clicks into the base and there is a release lever on the back that you squeeze to release the seat when you want to take the baby out. i have one and when fitted correctly they are perfectly safe.

This may come as a shock to you but my parents raised me and I NEVER once sat in a car seat...and my parents loved me just as much as you love your children. And I survived actual trips of hundreds of miles. Indeed there are generations of people before you that were raised without car seats. |

Some baby seats have bases that are either strapped in or attached to the chassis of the car so what you probably saw was the mother fixing the car seat to this base - there would be no need to attach a seat belt to it.
The seat then unclips and can be lifted out. |
