How long does it take air to leak out of a tire?

my valve stem broke into the little piece that screws on. the tire is full but it has no cover on it because the cover wont screw back on. i can not get it fixed until tomorrow morning. question is, how long will it take the air to leak out of it and will the air leak out in the time it takes me to drive the 10 miles to where i'm getting it fixed?

depends how fast it's leaking, get a can of spare tire and carry it with you if you need it if not someday you might

put soapy water around the valve stem, if it doesn't blow bubbles it isn't going flat, a slow leak can take days to drain, if you don't hear air hissing out

i dont think it should leek out but if it does it should only be slow lol

If you think that little cover is what keeps the air int the tire, forget it. The valve stem keeps the air in the tire, whether the cap is on or not.

If the valve stem broke and is leaking air very fast at all you'll hear it. Also, spit or soap water over the stem will bubble if it's leaking there. A slow leak can take days to fully flatten a tire. If you hear a hiss you've got a couple hours TOPS.

The cover is a "dust cover" and prevents pebbles and dirt from pushing on the valve stem and causing an air leak. Keep these on whenever possible. It's not the end of the world to lose them, but it's worthwhile to replace them if lost.

The rate of air loss depends on the size and weight of your vehicle, i.e., the bigger it is the faster it will leak. As you drive, friction on the tire increases the temperature and pressure of the air inside, which might lead to a blow out. You shouldn't have a problem with it, but I advise you to use your spare tire, just to be safe.
