I got a speeding ticket when I was 16. I had to appear in court, and had zero dollars. My mom & dad did not have the money either. The court room was packed, but I asked the baliff could I go in the back and speak with the judge. He carried me in the judges's office and I explained my situation. He must have thought I was brave, or an idiot, but I was like begging "mercy".
He said o.k. Robert I understand; but I am going to call your case to get you use to the system. lol. I will have a decision for you when I am on the bench. When I was called he asked me about the ticket, and I explained. He said are you ready to pay the fine, and court cost. I told him I had no money and that my dad was out of work and that we have no money. I have a paper route and clear about $10.00 per-week. He said here is what I am going to do! I will wave the court cost and fine you $15.00 to be paid within 90 days. The clerk jumped up and said, "Judge you can't do that"..The Judge told him to sat down, and that who is running this court anyway? He really got me off the hook. Normally you have to spend 15 days in jail at that time.... |

Not as much as it should be. You should have slowed down, forcing him to pass you. As it was, you were a threat to yourself and every other car on the road. Don't make the same mistake again. |

First off let me say that it doesn't matter who is high beaming you, if you can't get over, then you can't get over, Period. It is probably obvious to the other driver that you can't get over and he was being impatient and was in a hurry. Don't ever endanger your own or anyone else's life, just because the guy behind you is in a hurry. Your dad is going to be pissed and probably won't believe that someone else made you do 107 mph.
Secondly, the fine in some states can be increased because in most states, going 25mph or more over the speed limit is considered reckless driving. You may get your license suspended for 6 months and your dad still has the choice of going to the DMV and revoking his signature and thereby not allowing you to have a license.
Slow down, think for yourself and drive safely. There are other people on the road besides you. |

You will definitely get points! I got one doing 84 in a 55 and I got 8 points. Here in NY we can go to driving school to reduce the points and insurance rates. Depending on the state you live in. You could very well loose you license.................
My fine was $125.00 |

Don't try to lay that one on the judge...
You didn't say what state you were in. For example if you are found guilty in Calif. it will mean some jail time (which is worked off on weekends) as well as a fine.
Either way it sounds like you are totally scr'd.
If you are a minor you can kiss that license goodbye for a bit I think.
Find out if your court has first offender (?) traffic school options. That may help.
A lawyer may be able to help with your record, but ultimately it sounds like you are going to have to take the hit. When it comes, stand up, take it, and learn from it. It would be a shame not to get something for all that money an pain.
good luck |

It is going to be very expensive and goes on your insurance. You can't blame the other driver for you speeding. If he was in a hurry, he could have changed lanes. I can't blame your dad for being mad, after all, if your on his insurance, he's going have to pay more. |

In Minnesota you would lose your privilage to drive! There is no excuse for over 100 mph except stupidity... sorry! |

it should be written somewhere on the ticket how much you owe |

Dude, get a lawyer. Over 100 is serious in California.
And next time somebody tailgates or high-beams you, take your power, it's HIS problem not yours. You have no obligation to do anything special. It's polite to get over if you can, but if you can't, oh well!
You're 18 so you're an adult. This is between you and the court. Your dad's got nothing to do with it. If you want to tell him, that's between you and him. |

You shouldn't be driving, you obviously are not mature enough to handle a situation like that. |

I have an idea, stay out of the left hand lane unless you’re passing someone. If I remember correctly from drivers training the left lane is really supposed to be only used for passing anyway.
Good luck with the judge, you might be able to appeal to him/her for leniency but I can assure you he/she will not buy the fact someone else made you do it. I understand CA is quite strict so you might want to give some serious consideration to a lawyer considering what it will cost in the long run. Weigh the cost of a lawyer vs the cost of the ticket, time from work (if you work), possible jail time and the increase that your dad will see on his auto insurance it might be worth it. Again good luck. |

I got one of those in Arizona last year, cost me $840
all you have to do is call the number on the back of the ticket and they will tell you what the fine is. |

In Texas that would only be 27 mph over :)
Next time you have someone behind you with flashing lights pull over and let them by, it might be a cop or someone trying to get to the hospital |

First of all, your dad won't kill you. You might want to tell him right away though. He was your age once and will understand. If you feel more comfy talking to your mother (if you have one there) tell her and let her break it to your dad.
Good luck and slow down.
Most people never hit 100mph their whole life...that's fast. Just so you know. |

well yes your dad might kill you but if you sit down and explain to him what happend then he might not kill you and the speeding ticket might be around 400.00-500.00 |

it is more then an infraction, it is at the very least a misdemeanor you could actually loose your drivers license or have it suspended. you should not have gone that fast if you had gotten in an accident because of him rear ending you he would have been at fault. more then likely the judge will not let you get out of it because even though you think you were doing the right thing you did not and i really don't think you could say that in good faith this person would have hit you if you did not speed up. the best thing you could do is just tell the judge you thought it was the best thing to do at the time and that you were to inexperienced to know any better and pray for the best |

you got lucky with a ticket they could have put you in jail, 30 - 40 miles over the speed limit is a felony in alot of places, but I would assume it will be around 400 bucks for a fine, |

rich2481 has my vote! not only the ticket to contend with but also a huge increase in the insurance premium....Ouch! |

I was caught going 111mph on I-5 near Tracy, CA. My ticket was $385 and I had to see a judge. However, the judge did not show and therefore I did not have to explain, justify, or face wreckless driving charges and have my license revoked. |
|

you shouldnt have sped in the first place. that guy would have gotten a ticket instead of you, if you remain at the speed you were going and he tailgates you. going over 100 mph on the freeway is not only dangerous, but a felony as well. you are lucky you got a ticket instead of going to jail. im sure it is at least 300 dollars, or whatever the ticket says. |

emokiller

your an idiot you did not have to travel at over 100 mile per hour, wether there was someone beaming you or not.
You deserve the ticket and you deserve a boot up the ****.
you should have slowed the car walked out, opened the guys door and stuck your foot right in the a*sholes teeth. |

Police, lawyers, and judges don't care WHY you had to do what you did, just that you did it. In my experience (130mph in a 55 zone, plus careless driving, reckless driving, and endangering life and property) the prosecuting attorney and I met, I admitted to doing what the officer said I was doing, I stated that I would accept whatever consequences resulted from my actions...like a man, and he offered to knock all charges down to a misdemeanor careless driving which came to 235 dollars, and a year probation. You are on your own with your dad though. |

It depends on the laws in your area. A friend in Maryland got a $1000 ticket for going 100 in a 55mph. I know someone else who was doing 95 in a 55 zone got a $400 ticket but was charged with reckless driving. If they charge you actual reckless driving instead of just speeding then you may be in for bigger penalties. Did he give you a ticket for doing 107 or did he cut you a break and only give it for liek 85 or something less?
I would probably try to get a lawyer if I were you. |

Where you on the highway?
No where is there a speed limit of 100 mph.
You would pay 10 dollars for each mile over the speed limit--you went 7 over, so you would pay 70 dollars i think.
but say, the speed limit was 60....you would pay about....lets just say, 470 dollars!!!!!!
you shouldnt have been going that fast anyway! so dangerous. |
