How much trouble can you get into if you avoid a crossing light?

How much trouble can you get into if you avoid a crossing light?

I walk home from work daily and I was wondering how much trouble can you get in trouble for avoiding a crossing light (crosswalk). I do NOT have the time to wait for the light to change. I do NOT want to be standing there forever waiting for the light to change over. So I wait until there are no cars around and its clear and I run across. How much trouble can I get into for that. Normally I wound;t do that but the lights just take too long.

If the light takes too long, complain to the Department of Public Works.

You do NOT have any right to go zooming through a light just because you don't want to wait. You are selfishly and irresponsibly putting countless people at risk because of your stupidity.

You have to follow the same laws and rules of the road like everyone else. You are not special...so wise up and stop what you are doing.

Best case? A ticket. Worst case? Vehicular homicide. Keep the worst case in mind...because YOU would be the one who would be charged and convicted of that...and you would probably never drive again.

I can't even count how many reckless drivers like yourself that I have scraped up off the highway.

EMT

After re-reading the question more closely, I realized that you meant that you are NOT in a vehicle but on foot...correct?

In that case, my answer is off and I apologize. I decided to leave it as it was to hopefully get a message across to people who DO drive through red lights.

The least you can get is a jay walking ticket and more and more cities on cracking down on jay walking. You also put yourself at greater risk for someone hitting you. If you cross against the light or not cross in a crosswalk, then you are the one at fault. For your own safety, wait for walk signal. You just never know...

If no cars are around (and police-they always go by the book) then go.

I'm amazed by this question. I live in the Uk and it is perfectly legal to cross where ever you want and you don't to wait for the light.

Where do you live that actually has laws because it thinks its citizens can't cross a road without a crossing?
