How often is your speed enforced by aircraft?

I see the signs all up and down the interstate in my state of Virginia, but how often do they really spend money to get aircraft to monitor your speed?

While the aircraft can clock your speed and / or observe erratic or aggressive driving they do not issue the tickets directly - they radio a patrol car who will get into position to observe you directly - they don't care how far it takes! The plane or chopper will have no trouble keeping track of you! Aerial surveillance is most often employed on high traffic highways during major travel periods such as national holidays and during local events which draw large crowds such as championship games and mega-concerts.

With the way things are today, I don't think they are going to be chasing you around in an airplane.

I honestly don't think they really do it. They have those signs where i live, in New Jersey and I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket.

The Ontario Provincial Police in Ontario, Canada have the only 'eye in the sky' program running in Canada. Don't know about the U.S. authorities.
I used to love watching the Americans Touristas go whipping by us and see them stopped two miles down the road trying to figure out how they got clocked for speeding. Then you would see the officer point up to the sky and they'd get mad as H3LL.

I've seen aircraft clocking people in ND between Grand Forks and Fargo. Not sure how often, but I imagine on the days when travel is anticipated to be high or an event is nearby. Make sure if you get a ticket from a ground cop, that it's signed by the person that clocked you in the plane. Otherwise you can fight it and win.
