I think that it's always better for children to sit in backs of cars because they're always fijjiting about and when they're in the back you can give them lots of toys and things to do to keep them quiet.

But when they have toys you have to make sure they're not dangerous ones with sharp edges just in case you have a crash or have to do an emergency stop or something cos sharp edges might end up with them damaging themselves, or blinding their eye or something.

And they should always wear a seatbelt just in case. And have some soft sweets and a cold drink if they get thirsty.

It is height not age that dictates whether a child can sit in front of a car..if they are tall enough not to need a booster seat then they can sit in the front. I think the legal height restriction is 145 cm but not 100%- under this and the child must use a booster.

THINK! New Child Car Seat Regulations: FAQs

3. Can children travel in the front seat? What about 2-seaters and convertibles?

Save for those in rear-facing baby seats against active front air-bags, children can travel in the front seat of any vehicle provided they are properly restrained. This includes 2-seaters or convertibles, even if the top is down. But see below about air-bags [see Q. 15].
