How safe is my car?
Find answers to your legal question.

How safe is my car?

is there a website out there which would tell me how my car would fair in an accident. i have my test in a few weeks and if i pass will be driving it :)

It's a Fiat Sceicento Sporting X REG.

please no jokes about Fixing It Again Today!!!

cheers

Miss N
Emma,
I would suggest that you focus on your driving test rather then on things which have not happened and why be negative and start thinking about accidents, not a nice thought, just think about being a careful and safe driver on the road.

Good luck with the test.

In the euro NCAP crash test, the seicento nearly split in half at 40mph. I would never let my girlfriend drive one, as they are built very cheaply and they are very light. The passenger compartment caused serious threat to the legs
basically, the safety of the seicento is non-existant almost on a citroen saxo level!

here is a picture of one in a crash test. Judge for yourself!!!!!!

1/5 stars????

Having had that car there is not enough protection in a serious crash. The 106 Peugeot is the same. having just seen the remains of a 106 after a lorry hit it i would suggest you buy a bigger and safer car than either yours or the 106

Hi, to be honest with you, if you were involved in an accident it would be written off......

Sadly they are terrible. I would seriously concider a renault clio. any age or model. they are a very strong and a safe, small car.

Hello, yes there is a website, it's called European New Car Assessment Programme.

Older Fiats usually fair quite poorly. Except for the newest models which are vasty improved, 2006 PUNTO being one of these. And the eagerly awaited FIAT 500 for 2008 will be safe too!!

There is a general rule of thumb that cars DESIGNED after 2001 are BETTER than any older designs.
Look for THORAX or side airbags or curtains, seatbelt pre-tensioners and EBA (emergency brake assist) which is better than good old fashioned ABS. For carrying children, look for a car that has ISOFIX childseat mountings they are much much better.

Unfortunately the Seicento, (which means 600 in Italian) and designed in 1997, is a poor model when it comes to crash testing. In fact it is the worst car they have ever tested! Here are some exerpts.

Front impact, the steering wheel could cause serious facial injury if struck by the driver in an accident.

The driver slipped forward in his seat belt so loading his abdomen.

The knee impact area was aggressive and the feet were endangered by the brake pedal movement.

Side Impact, the force recorded in the abdominal area of the driver could lead to an increased risk of serious or fatal injury.

You can read the entire test by following the link below.

EURONAP has a simple five star rating one star is useless, 5***** is good.
REALLY YOU NEED AT LEAST A FOUR STAR. Don't forget that whatever hits you, will have a higher rating too! There is a lot of difference in the performance, as the two comparible links below will show you.

SO! Top performing cars....................................... the Renault Megane, Modus, Clio, Laguna.... (all post 2001 Renault cars) And the latest Punto, the Latest Focus and Astra models, the latest Mercedes A and B class, and the VERY latest Vauxhall corsa. THESE ALL HAVE FIVE STARS.

Your car is a one star. I wouldn't joke about it.

Compare it to this model from Renault.

my mate crashed his fiat sceicento and wrote it off, he told me he was going down a hill at 20mph but i assumed he must have been going alot faster than that to write it off, especially as he is a boy racer and i have seen his driving! but after reading all this, im starting to think maybe he was telling the truth. i have one, although i havent passed my test (its in a few weeks too) and i love it to drive and it looks great, its perfect for me as its small like i am! :) im not put off by what people are saying though, as my sister has just said to me.. just dont drive silly and dont crash!!
