How to control steerig while driving a car?

I ve been learning car driving for the last 15 days but I am not getting steering control. I am going in a zig zog path. Please tell me about steering control and also some driving tips like when to use cluch and gear changing etc.

Turn the steering wheel clock wise to turn right. Turn the steering wheel counter clockwise to turn left.

I actually saw a driver's handbook with these instructions, including diagrams, in the late 1960's. The frightening thing was that the book was used in a "Special Ed" driver's education class. These were the kids who were brought to school in the short yellow bus.

Well the first thing to understand is that it takes some time to get used to driving. Don't worry if you don't get it right away, it takes time. If you are having problems with steering, you need to keep your car steady. When steering you should not drift. Keep both hands on the steering wheel, and keep your car centered. As a first time driver you may be a little nervous and wary of the other cars around you. Don't worry about them. Stay in your lane, keep the car centered and keep both hands on the steering wheel. As far as gear changing, and using the clutch, you should follow this advice. When I first started driving I started with a stick shift. It took me some time as well so it will take you some time as well. I learned how to drive this way. The first thing is to listen to the engine. Just before you shift gears, you will notice the engine increases in loudness. Onces the engine gets louder, then you shift. But when you shift, you need to go to each gear in a 1 - 2 - 3 motion. Basically before you shift, press the clutch, and then shift and don't take your foot off the clutch until you have shifted. Keep doing it that way and pay attention.

you just do not have enough time behind the wheel with practice it all becomes automatic<

If you have a manual transmission you can use the engine compression to slow the car and your brakes will last much longer! Be careful not to downshift at too high a speed - if the engine rpm's are above 2500 you may cause the engine to over rev if you downshift. Practice will be your best tutor. Truckers use engine braking for slowing down at every opportunity because it greatly reduces wear on brakes and tires.

Up shift at between 2000 and 2500 rpm for economical and smooth driving but if you need to accelerate quickly use full throttle and shift just before the engine reaches the Red Line on the tachometer in second and third gears. Third gear is great for accelerating to speed on a highway on ramp.

Make your steering adjustments smooth and gentle - moving the wheel just 1/4" to 1/2" will have a noticeable effect on the vehicle course at highway speeds. Again practice will be the thing you need most.

Please make it a habit to signal your intentions - for a multi-lane highway lane change maneuver signal 3 blinks before you start to leave your lane and keep the signal operating until you are completely in the lane you are moving into. Also please pull well ahead of any vehicle you are passing (especially Big trucks) before pulling back into the lane for your safety and that of everyone else on the road.

it sounds like you are driving as you have seen it done in movies and tv. this is incorrect. simply hold the wheel steady when you are driving in a straight line. you may need to make minor adjustments from time to time. i strongly emphasize the term minor in that last statement.

as for clutch use- you will need to depress the pedal furthest to the left when you change gears, whether it be an up-shift or a downshift.

up-shift: going from gears 1-2-3-4-5

downshift: 5-4-3-2-1

note- only one gear at a time. once you familiarize yourself with the car and its transmission you may skip from fifth to third and so forth when an action of this nature is applicable.

you will want to downshift when you need to pass another car. it is a common misconception that downshifting whilst braking is a good thing as it assists the car to a stop. this is wrong. simply put the car in neutral, or depress the clutch pedal, and let your brakes do their job.

hopefully you find this information useful.

If your car has a hood ornament, your line of sight should be when you see that the ornament it will be in line with the center road marker..
Older model cars had markers on the speedometer to indicate when to shift. You need to listen to the motor, it will tell you when to shift.
I am glad you are learning on a standard. That is rare these days. You will have better control of your vehicle in a standard.
Make sure you know exactly where each gear is. clutch and gas...one foot does the opposite of the other smoothly. .
