How to overcome fear of driving in my crowded city?

Sometimes over-cautious drivers are more dangerous than reckless drivers. Hitting the breaks, driving slower than the average speed, waiting too long before pulling out onto a highway - these can be very dangerous and incite road-rage in stupid, selfish people. Just try to go with the flow. Keep distractions completely out of the scenario: loud music, coffee, make-up, cell phone, whatever. But if you are too afraid, you might compromise: try driving to a certain point where you are comfortable, then taking a bus or city transit the rest of the way. Don't give up, however. Stay within your comfort zone, but try each week to extend that barrier. Soon you will be zooming along with everybody else.

First things first get really confident in your driving ablility in general. Then when you feel you are good to handle a light neighboorhood it will be the same as any other street. Remember crowded streets means that you will be going slow not fast at all times it's easier it's more of a stop and go not a go go go. so braking and not stepping on the gas will be a problem

try driving on early morning like on Sundays when most people are not up yet or later at night during the week get used to the routes that you take and the other traffic will not intimidate you as much...

You can either start small or you can drive early in the morning then gradually the cars will be more, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY SAY "I CAN DO THIS!".

Start small, you know-- driving around the block, driving to the grociery store, and work your way up the chain. Pretty soon you'll be cruisin on the expressway like a pro.

The only way to overcome this fear is to actually drive in the city.You can take your driving instructor with you the first time and then start going alone, gradually the fear will decrease and as you get used to it you will not fear it at all.

* Throw away the fear of hitting anyone--you won't!
* Concentrate on driving.
* Drive slowly--don't bother about the honkings behind you!!
* Keep your eye on your right-hand side, so that you may see who tries to overtake you.

The best way to overcome fear of driving in a crowded city is to get more driving practice in less congested areas and work gradually to more and more congested areas.
Confidence in one's driving ability will gradually overcome such fears.
