How un-safe are rollercoasters?

me and my fran are having a little dispute about how safe rollercoasters are and she thinks that it is possible for a coaster to fall off its tracks, i know this is possible but its not very likely is it? how many deaths occur a year frum rollercoasters? give me all the info. u can about safety on rollercoasters plz!

There are many danagers with roller coasters, but that is not one of them.

Some actual dangers are:

1. Persons who stick their hands or feet out of the car and get them caught in the moving parts.
2. Persons who are not properly secured in their seats and fall out.
3. Various existing medical conditions (pregnancy, heart conditions, etc.) that can be worsened by roller coaster riding.
4. Heart attack caused by being scared.
5. Persons waiting to board who fall onto the tracks and are hit by the roller coaster.

It has never happened before with the falling off the tracks thing but you could fall out of the seat and onto the ground bellow......So that`s why they have height requirements.

well obviously rollercoasters are pretty safe considering there not illegal.
