The RTO issues learners driving licence immediately,on filling u the required form & payment of fees.

3months after issue of learners Licence,you can apply for permanent driving licene,for which you require:
1.Fill the necessary aplication form,
2.Pay the necessary tax challan,
3.Appear for driving test on the appointed day,
4.After satisfactory driving test, they will examine eye sight
ie if squint,then opthalmologist certificate required.
5.Original licence will be sent by regd.post to your address

I suggest find a reliable broker to go about the formalities.No,I am not encouraging Brokers, but unfortunately, since the procedures are lengthy, RTO office works smoothly only if channels are properly greased.

Your learners permint and your real permit is the same thing... you could have got that when you were 16... all you have to do is take the test waiting in the line at the DMV is waht takes so long it should only take you 20 min for the test then you get your picture taken and drive away, but since you are 18 you could just go in and take the real driving teat for your actual liscense and that just involves a driving test and takes a little bit longer but the same wait at the DMV

depends on your state you have to have so many driving hours with a licensed driver at different times of the day checkwith your local license bureau where you got your temp permit

i think if you're 18, you can get your learners permit and then take the test whenever you want.

Brian, at your age, you should be able to get an actual drivers' license in your state.

im in australia so we go to get our licence from the RTA
i got my licence when i was 16

depends what satte your in in Mi it takes more then 6 months

In GA you have to have your learners permit for one year, one month, and one day from the date of the test. EX: Permit testing date: Jan. 1, 2006. Drivers license: Feb. 2, 2007. Being 18, I'm not a 100% sure, but I still think that you have your permit for a year. Go onto the state website for the DMV in your state and it will tell you the law for there. If you can't do that, look in your permit testing booklet. Good luck!
