I was nervous. I still am. I do not like highway driving. Miss an exit, catch the next. You'll be all right. |

Don't be nervous. Just find the nearest large city to where your sister lives and follow the signs to that city until you start seeing signs for you sister's city. MapQuest and Google Maps can provide good directions. Your sister may also be able to give you good routes.
Just take it exit by exit, don't get too far ahead of yourself. Follow the signs. If you are having trouble reading the directions while you drive, type up a condensed version of the directions (if the directions you have aren't short enough) and tape it to your steering wheel or possibly the dash board. |

It is normal to be nervous. It helps to have a map, cell phone, etc, next to you so you feel more confident. Stop and take a break at least once and review which exits and roads you are going to travel and it will help you feel more confident about where you are going. Have fun! |

I was nervous but as long as you pay attention to where your driving (trucks, motorcycles and fast cars are a nuisance) and enjoy the ride you won't have a problem. Keep distractions like the cell phone talking only to you needing to make the call.If you need to make a call or answer one pull off the side of the road into a parking lot or rest stop to do your talking.
Enjoy your visit. |

Buy a navigation system. That way you won't get lost. |

Just stay in the travel lane and do the speed limit and read the signs that tell you where you are going. Be prepared to wave at the people that pass you on the right and the left and try to make you drive faster by tail gateing you. You will be just fine. |

Being afraid of driving on the highway is one of the most common things that alot of people face at all ages.
Not only are you going at a high rate of speed, but you’re likely traveling further than home or your “safe place” than you would like, are more likely to encounter bridges, exits and will be unable to pull over and escape the situation readily if you feel anxious.
There’s no reason you need to press the pedal to the floor and barrel down the highway as fast as possible, in fact, that’s counterproductive. Quit rushing through your feared situation, force yourself to slow down to a safe and reasonable speed, and realize that driving isn’t really that terrifying. Get in the right lane, take some deep breaths, and let you shoulders drop. Relax…you’ve got climate control, a stereo sound system, and a chair more comfortable.
So what? So what if you can’t get off the highway until the next exit in a few miles? What do you think is REALLY going to happen? Think you’ll lose control and twist the wheel into traffic or off the bridge? You won’t. Think your mind will spin too fast and you’ll slip into madness? You won’t, it doesn’t work that way. Maybe you’ll have to pull over and you’ll disrupt traffic and run across the highway and have to be restrained and be on the news and be humiliated. Nope. Won’t happen.
Just relax, have fun and drive safe, you will be fine.
