If it was a warning ticket i wouldn't worry about it at all, but if was a fix it ticket i might of had a court date on it. From your text Q it sounds like a warning ticket. I wouldn't worry to much at all. Just get the window fixed, as soon as you can.

kurt
The warning is for a safety issue,(your windshield is an integral part of the crash structure,it helps stop the roof from folding in on you in a crash).(note the ticket is to get it REPAIRED,there is no monetary fine associated with it)

Should you choose not to have it repaired and get pulled over, you may need to have it repaired before they allow you to operate the vehicle, read: they pull your registration until it`s fixed.

If you lost the citation the officer wrote you,,got to the county clerk in the county the citation was written in and ask for a copy....they can give a copy and you can do with it what ever you want.

I have a small crack in my windshield too...but have not gotten a ticket for it yet. You should not even worry about it.

RUAQT?
Take the car to a cop shop and have them inspect it and take it off the books/computer. It's all recorded by your license plate/ registration etc...

Me again
Palebeachbum is the only smart one here, except for me. Get the dam window fixed and pay the ticket. You won't be able to register your car if it has a ticket on it.

palebeachbum
Ok, completely ignore the people on here saying not to pay the ticket. That's completely moronic. It technically is illegal to drive a car with a cracked windsheild and can be ticketed, so the ticket is totally legit. Besides, any ticket that a cop gives you is legit. Duh! Call the court for the county in which the ticket was issued. They should be able to help you with what to do. I can't believe someone would be insane enough to say not to pay the ticket because it's bogus. Someone needs a reality check!

Check with your state's motor vehicle department or tax collecting agency. Normally, traffic citations are regulated through the states. Typically, each state has a governmental website for information.

Screw that...That's bogus..it's probably a scam.

It's not a new law, but is rarely enforced.

Contact the court; they'll have your ticket on file.

Call the police dept that issued the citation. Tell them what happened and they'll let you know how to contact the district court. Better make the call or the fines will mount!

It is not a new law. It has to do with equipment malfunctions. That's also why you get ticketed for broken headlights, broken taillights, seat belts not functioning, things like that. The theory is that a crack in your windsheild, especially when it gets larger, can be a hazzard to your vision. And it gets expensive to replace winshields every time you get a little crack, hence the kits to *repair* cracks instead. Which, by the way, really do work.

In any case, if you've lost your copy of the ticket, don't worry too much. The courthouse keeps their own copies; for the officer's records, and for the clerk of court. Just go down to your clerk of court office, the documents section, and they'll have a copy on hand. You can even get a copy. They'll have to do a search, and if your clerk is as surely as my local one, they won't like it, but they won't have a choice. :-)
