I think we have them b/c if the accident is really bad enough to throw someone thru the window, the airbag can kinda help. Altho I think it's crazy that when you don't need them and the accident wasn't that horrible but they still go off. I really think the sensor or whatever it is that triggers the airbag should be designed differently. Maybe someday there will be something better than an airbag. You'd think we'd already have something though. |

I don't know where you got that info, but it is wrong, talk to someone who has had an accident and had the bag inflate. Whats worse? Going headfirst out through the windshield or having a bag stop you from doing that. I'll take the bag anyday. |

before air bags when people got into accidents they would hit their heads on the steering wheel and end up having brain trauma or serious injuries to the skull air bags decrease the risk of having such injuries, many times people would bang their heads on the sides of the interior of the car which is why safer cars ie mercedes and volvos install air bags on the sides of doors. |

that article doesn't say anything about airbags killing more lives than it saves. yes, airbags can kill, but they save more. |

The NHTSA recorded 638 deaths due to airbags between 1990 and 2005 but recorded in that same time frame over 48,000 have been saved...... |
